a presente invenção refere-se a meios e métodos de fermentação para a produção de polissacarídeos em uma cultura de células bacterianas. em um aspecto, a invenção se refere a um meio de cultura complexo compreendendo um hidrolisado vegetal, um extrato de levedura, e uma fonte de carbono. em outro aspecto, a invenção se refere a um meio definido tendo uma concentração de aminoácidos totais superior a cerca de 50 mm. um aspecto adicional da invenção se refere à utilização de métodos de fermentação por alimentação em descontínuo e por perfusão para cultivar bactérias produtoras de polissacarídeos.
