são fornecidas aqui, entre outras, composições e métodos para conservar plaquetas em um estado funcional e isento de lesão durante períodos de armazenagem prolongados de até 15 dias bem como métodos e kits para utilizar os mesmos. em contraste com composições e técnicas atualmente disponíveis para conservar plaquetas, plaquetas armazenadas nas composições reveladas aqui são caracterizadas por uma diminuição acentuada em ?lesões de armazenagem?, que são associadas à função hemostática atenuada. durante armazenagem de plaqueta, as composições reveladas aqui (1) mantêm e/ou recuperam estados de energia de plaqueta e morfologia, (2) mantêm tamponamento e metabolismo ativo; (3) conservam e/ou promovem produção de óxido nítrico, e (4) evitam formação, agregação e ativação de micropartícula durante armazenagem. como tal, conservação de longo prazo nas composições descritas aqui produz plaquetas que são totalmente funcionais e isentas de lesão.
