este documento descreve vias bioquímicas para produzir éster metílico de 5-hidroxipentanoato e éster pentílico de ácido pentanoico com o uso de um ou mais dentre uma ácido graxo o-metiltransferase, um álcool o-acetiltransferase e uma monooxigenase, bem como hospedeiros recombinantes que expressam uma ou mais de tais enzimas exógenas. os ésteres metílicos de 5-hidroxipentanoato e os ésteres pentílicos de ácido pentanoico podem ser enzimaticamente convertidos em ácido glutárico, 5-aminopentanoato, 5-hidroxipentanoato, cadaverina ou 1,5-pentanodiol.
