Abstract

"CéLULA DE ELETRóLISE COM ELéTRODO DE DIFUSãO A GáS". A presente invenção refere-se a uma célula de eletrólise a membrana compreendendo um compartimento anódico e um compartimento catódico, onde pelo menos um dos dois compartimentos que contêm um elétrodo alimentado a gás e um elemento planar poroso é sobreposto entre a membrana e o elétrodo alimentado a gás. Um fluxo de eletrólide quimicamente agressivo percorre o elemento planar poroso de cima para baixo sob o efeito da força da gravidade. O elemento planar é formado de um material plástico resistente às condições operativas agressivas: o uso de plásticos perfluorados tais como ECTFE, PTEFE, FEP, PFA é preferido, mesmo sendo fortemente hidrofóbicos. Quando o elétrodo alimentado a gás é um cátodo e o gás contém oxigênio, o gás percorre o compartimento catódico de baixo para cima de modo a minimizar o risco de acúmulo de hidrogênio. A célula equipada com o cátodo de oxigênio é particularmente vantajosa para eletrólise de cloreto de sódio.
