Abstract

Coloured gelatin layers placed on a support for use in photography are prepd. by treating a dye of formula I with an aqs. silver nitrate soln. (where R1 is H, alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl; R2 is alkoxy or amino; X is O, NH o N-Ph; and M is a cation). The dye has formula I where R1 is alkyl esp. methyl; R2 is alkoxy esp. ethoxy; X is O; and M is pyridinium. The gelatine layer may contain other dyes. The gelatine layer forms part of a photographic material contg. at least one silver halide emulsion layer, and may be an antihalo layer, or a filter layer.
