Abstract

1350230 Direct positive silver halide emulsions FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 29 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 60468/71 Heading G2C A direct positive material comprises a lightsensitive silver halide emulsion layer including a Group VIII metal compound, e.g. a compound of Rh, Ru, Ir or Os, and a dye of the following formula which sensitizes the emulsion to the 5460-5770A wavelength region in which L<SP>1</SP>, L<SP>2</SP> and L<SP>3</SP> each represent optionally substituted methine; R and R<SP>1</SP> each represent optionally substituted alkyl; R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> each represent alkyl, aralkyl or allyl; X is an anion; n is 0 or 1; Z completes an optionally substituted benzene or napthalene ring; Z<SP>1</SP> completes an optionally substituted oxazole ring: and R and L<SP>1</SP> or R<SP>3</SP> and L<SP>1</SP> may be connected with each other through an alkylene chain. The sensitivity of the emulsion can be further increased by incorporating in the emulsion a salt of a tri- or tetravelent metal e.g. a salt of antimony, bismuth or arsenic.
