1454644 Heterocyclic methine dyes FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 5 March 1974 [5 March 1973] 9944/74 Heading C4P [Also in Division G2] Direct-positive photographic silver halide emulsions are sensitized by a dye of the general formula where L<SP>1</SP> and L<SP>2</SP> are each optionally substituted methine groups, R<SP>1</SP> is H, alkyl which may be substituted or aryl, R<SP>2</SP> is carboxyl or alkoxycarbonyl, R<SP>3</SP> is alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are each alkyl which may be substituted, alkenyl or aryl, Z completes a nitrogen containing 5- or 6-membered optionally substituted heterocyclic ring, X- is an anion, m is 1 or 2 and each of n and q is 0 or 1.
