<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Comme peracides, on utilise l'acide performique, l'acide peracétique, l'acide trifluoroperacétique, l'acide perbenzofque, l'acide monoperphtalique, l'acide perpropionique, l'acide perbutyrique, l'acide monopersuccinique,l'acide diperphtalique.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

- R 'is a mono-or-dialkylamino radical of low molecular weight in which the alkyl groups can be linked together to form a ring with or without nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur.
When the ring contains a nitrogen atom, the nitrogen atom can be bonded to a low molecular weight alkyl group.
The rings thus formed are, for example, pyrrolidinyl, piperidyl, imidazolidinyl, pipe ** razino, morpholino or thiazolidinyl.
Benzaldehyde substituted and reacted with the desired primary amine or a salt thereof in the presence of an inert solvent such as water or a low molecular weight aliphatic alcohol such as methanol or ethanol.
It is also possible to operate without solvent, because the operation is less easily carried out. As salts of primary amines, for example, hydrochloride, sulfate, acetate, etc. are used.
When using an amine salt, it is preferable to dissolve the salt beforehand in solution, alkaline or in the presence of a base such as sodium hydroxide.
The reaction is generally carried out at room temperature or even with cooling and no heating is required.
The substituted benzylidenimines (III) thus obtained are dissolved in an organic solvent and treated with an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide, potassium permanganate, an organic peracid or a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
compound which, dissolved in water, gives rise to hydrogen peroxide.
As peracids, performic acid, peracetic acid, trifluoroperacetic acid, perbenzofque acid, monoperphthalic acid, perpropionic acid, perbutyric acid, monopersuccinic acid and diperphthalic acid are used. As compounds which give rise to hydrogen peroxide by dissolving in water, there are preferably used alkali metal peroxides, rare earth metals, an alkali peroxoborate, Caro's acid, persulfuric acid and sodium persulfate. 'ammonium. Alkaline permanganates or peroxides are used in aqueous medium or in weakly acidic aqueous solution.
Peroxoborates, Caro's acid, persulfuric acid, ammonium persulfate and potassium permanganate are used in the dissolved state in water.
The oxidation reaction can be carried out in an acidic medium, but it is preferable to operate in a weakly alkaline medium by adding an alkali hydroxide, an alkali carbonate, an alkali acetate, etc.
The organic solvents used must be inert with respect to the oxidant; for example, methanol, ethanol, chloroform, acetone. When the oxidizing agent is hydrogen peroxide, an alkaline peroxide, Caro's acid, persulfuric acid, ammonium persulfate or a perborate, it was preferred to use methnol, ethanol, dioxane, acetone, etc. When the oxidizing agent is an organic peracid, chloroform, ether, benzene, acetone, dioxane are preferably used. When using potassium permanganate in acetone, the reaction mixture should be kept neutral by adding, for example, aluminum or magnesium sulfate.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The oxidation reaction is generally carried out at room temperature or by slight heating and sometimes, depending on the oxidant used, under cooling.
The substituted benzamidines of general formula (III) are new compounds which form part of the invention.
The benzamides obtained (IV) are used as drugs with various pharmacological activities such as analgesics, spasmolytics, sedatives, narcotics and antiemetics.
The following examples are given to illustrate the invention without limiting the latter in any way.
