The present invention relates to sealed metal containers, in which products can be stored substantially under vacuum or at a pressure below atmospheric pressure.
There are already receptacles of this type, consisting of a rolled or folded sheet in the form of a receptacle, the edges of which are joined together or welded on one side, and closed at its lower part, while at its upper part. its orifice has a rolled edge for receiving a cover provided with an elastic gasket and combined with appropriate members providing a leaktight seal after the desired conditions have been obtained.
Side weld line containers may exhibit some deficiency, particularly under hot and humid conditions and under vacuum, and the maintenance of reduced pressure may be prevented as a result of the abrupt movement or manipulation of the lid providing the seal. waterproof closure.
The invention is embodied in a one-piece container made of malleable metal such as aluminum or an aluminum alloy, formed by a continuous wall and a seamless bottom, this wall having one or more interior rims serving to support one or more of the sides. several objects or products and, towards its mouth, a part directed inward and forming a shoulder on which rests an internal capsule designed so as to produce a tight seal, the mouth having beyond this internal shoulder a lip or a rigid rolled edge for receiving a cover itself.
The internal sealing cap is provided with an orifice and a self-sealing plug is fixed on the metal edge of this orifice by a collar which engages exactly in said orifice and a flange pressing on. the metal which surrounds it, the stopper being studied in such a way as to be able to be pierced with the aid of the rod or the needle of a vacuum apparatus.
The description which follows, given with reference to the appended drawings given without limitation, will make it possible to better understand the invention.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view of the container with its internal sealing cap and the cover.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of an alternative interior seal cap and cover.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2 but relating to another variant.
Fig. 4 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 3.
In fig. 1 denotes the bottom of the container, 11 the vertical cylindrical wall, 12 the inner support rim, and 13 the top of the container, disposed above the rim 12.
The part adjacent to the mouth of the container and directed inward is designated by 14 and the internal shoulder on which an internal capsule 15 rests so as to achieve a tight seal is designated by 16.
The mouth of the container is designated by 12 and the letter or the rolled edge used to receive the lid 18 by 19
The container is fabricated without welds or joints from a disc or billet of malleable metal, for example aluminum, by impact extrusion operations. These operations produce the bottom 10 and a cylindrical wall having the dimensions of the larger diameter portion of the container, shown at 13.
The shaped part thus produced is subjected to successive stamping and extrusion or drawing operations in pressing tools in order to reduce the part adjacent to the bottom 10 to the diameter of part 11 and to form the rim. inclined 12. The metal is then pushed around to form the tapered or rounded part 14 directed inwards,

and the mouth 17 is caused to expand so as to obtain the shoulder 16.
The mouth is extended so as to form between the shoulder 16 and a stiffening lip or rolled edge 12 a housing for the reception of the sealing cap 15 and for the part of a cover 18 coming through. engage in this mouth, the cover carrying a lip 20 directed outwards and resting on the lip or the rolled edge 19 of the mouth of the container.
The inner sealing cap 15 is made from a blank the periphery of which is folded down upon itself as indicated at 21 and then folded back substantially in a direction perpendicular to the blank as indicated. at 22. thus forming a flat rigid peripheral part of diameter slightly less than the internal diameter of the mouth 17 of the container. A ring of sealing material 23 is disposed around the flange 22.
on the outside thereof, against the flat rigid part 22 When the cap 15 is in place in the mouth of the container, this sealing ring forms a seal between the part 21 and the shoulder 16, while the flange 22 engages by interlocking inside the internal face of the zone formed under the shoulder.
The inner sealing cap 15 has an orifice 24 and a self-sealing plug ± of rubber or other flexible plastic material is fixed to the edge of the metal surrounding this orifice by a collar which engages in this orifice, the metal being clamped between the upper part of the plug and a lower flange 26 provided towards its inner end.
The collar of the stopper is preferably provided with a recess 27 leaving a zone of small thickness in the middle part of this stopper, and a needle or tubular rod of a vacuum device can be made to penetrate through this zone. so as to achieve a partial vacuum inside the container.
Instead of the outer cover 18 shown in FIG. 1 which is retained by fitting by friction in the mouth provided with a rolled edge of the container, is shown in FIG. 2 a cover provided with an external flange 28 which fits on the outside of the mouth 17 of the container. In this variant, the sealing cap 15 ′ is slightly raised in its middle part, so that when the cap is in place and is combined with a sealing ring, the vacuum created in the container increases the retention of the metal around. of the cap collar.
In the variant embodiment shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the outer cover 30 is designed to be able to be engaged by sliding on the rolled edge 19 of the mouth of the container and it has, for its retention, a flange 31 folded inward, surrounding approximately half of the circumference of the cover and, on the other half of that circumference, one or more tabs 32 which can be folded down to hold the cover 30 after the sealing cap 15 is in place
Modifications can be made to the embodiments described, in the field of technical equivalences, without departing from the invention.
