APPAREIL DE CHAUFFAGE FONCTIONNANT AU MAZOUT ET AUTRES COMBUSTIBLES
LIQUIDES.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 est une demi-vue et une demi=coupe en élévation du brû- leur ;
Figo 2 est une demi-vue en plan correspondante ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

OIL AND OTHER FUEL HEATING APPLIANCES
LIQUIDS.
The invention relates to a heating apparatus comprising a burner supplied with fuel oil or any other liquid fuels, whatever their scientific or trade name: kerosene, heavy oils, etc.
The burner according to the present invention differs essentially from known liquid fuel burners in that. conversely to the latter, the air intended for combustion is directed from the center outwards, that is to say towards the casing of the burner so as to produce, by its encounter with the gasified fuel a crown of gas at high temperature simulating the combustion of a pressed gas.
A burner according to the invention comprises a cast iron casing which is fixed in any suitable manner to the frame of the heating appliance and opens freely at its upper part, said casing having at its base a central collar projecting towards the interior, in which fits and is fixed a metal receptacle forming an air box, which protrudes inside the casing beyond said collar, so as to constitute under said box a lower chamber into which the liquid fuel arrives to be gasified and laterally to said box an upper chamber in which the combustion of the gasified fuel takes place, gasification and combustion taking place only under the action of primary air.
In order to obtain gasification and efficient combustion, the air box is pierced with exactly calibrated holes and distributed in series of exactly determined positions.
The drawing appended to this specification shows only by way of example a liquid fuel burner in accordance with the invention.
In this drawing:
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 is a half view and a half = section in elevation of the burner;
Figo 2 is a corresponding half-plan view;
Figo 3 is an elevational view of the air box, of which
Figo 4 is a plan view from below In the embodiment shown in the drawing, the burner comprises a cast iron casing 1, which has at its free upper part a collar 2, by means of which it is fixed under the plate of the planned heating appliance, stove or other. The casing 1 has a bottom 3 pierced with a central opening 4 from which a vertical cylindrical collar 5 ends in a horizontal rim 6.
At a chosen point on its periphery, the casing is laterally near its bottom, pierced with a hole 7 intended to provide passage to the piping of a liquid fuel supply carburetor.
In the casing 1 is placed and fixed on the rim 6 of the collar 5 the base of a box 8 made of molybdenum-refractory steel sheet extending at its lower part by a tube 9 which fits into the collar 5.
Under these conditions we can distinguish in this burner a lower chamber A, called gasification and turbulence and a lateral chamber B, surmounting the first, where the combustion will take place.
It should be noted in particular that the air box 8 is intended to receive only primary air to the exclusion of any secondary air. This primary air opens into the lower chamber A through holes 10 drilled vertically in the bottom 3 of the casing 1 and through holes 11 drilled horizontally in the vertical side wall of the box 8.
Thus)) while the liquid fuel flows drop by drop into the bottom of chamber A, air sucked in by the chimney through holes 10 and 11 of box 8 form multiple jets which ;, in chamber A , cause gasification of the fuel and in chamber B ignite and combustion of the gases produced.
All the air mass contained in the box 8 will act on the other hand to compress the layer of air adjacent to the bottom of said box so that the air escaping through the vertical holes 10 will promote the gasification of the box. fuel while simultaneously causing a turbulence of the gases which will facilitate their ignition by the horizontal air jets coming out of the holes 11 in the form of darts, as if it were a squeezed gas.
This effect results in particular from the fact that the draft orifice of the chimney has a section greater than that of the air inlet tube 9. Thus, in the present cases for a draft orifice of 150 mm, the diameter of the tube 9 will only be 108 mm.
Finally, around the box 8, a ring of flames is obtained which will rise up to under the cover of the heating device.
As it was said at the beginning of this memoir, the circulation of the air - which is only primary air - is done exactly in the opposite direction to the direction generally followed in known burners.
The tube 9 of the air box 8 is provided with an adjustment flap
12 pivoting about its axis 13. This flap is connected by a suitable rod to the carburetor lever so as to obtain a primary air dosage established as a function of the carburetor flow rate. However, in order to allow any adjustment of the air according to the circumstances relating to the heating installation, the shutter 12 can also be operated by hand by a handle such as 14. .
To obtain the desired favorable effect from the burner device, it is important to give its various members and parts well-defined dimensions. Thus., According to the present invention for a height of the casing 1 equal to 250 mm and a diameter of 250 mm
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
also. box 8 will be given a height of 150 mm and a diameter of
195 mm, so that the annular chamber B will have a width of 27.5 mm. The height of chamber A will be 30 mm.
On the other hand, the holes 10 and 11 will be exactly calibrated to a diameter of 2.5 mmo Laterally, the air box 9 will be drilled in its upper part with two rows of very close holes intended to activate combustion, while at from these rows the holes 11 spaced from each other by 30 mm will be arranged in a quincone in five parallel rows.
The number of holes 10 will be soft 20 mm from the outer edge.
In order to prevent any entry of secondary air, it is essential that the most absolute hermeticity is maintained throughout the burner.
Although the above description relates to a cooker, it is understood that the burner described can be fitted to any heating appliance.
