<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

IMPROVEMENTS PROVIDED TO CARRIERS WITH STACKED STRANDS,
ESPECIALLY TO SQUEEGEE CARRIERS.
The invention relates to conveyors with superposed strands, in particular to scraper conveyors. with an intermediate bottom which connects, approximately at mid-height, the side walls of the corridor and it consists, mainly, in fixing to the ends of said side walls, below the plane intermediate base fixed thereto. stops which serve as a support for the adjacent sections of the corridor and which form the supports for the coupling members of these sections o The stops can be constituted by simple fairly massive bodies of suitable length, these bodies comprising a passage serving as housing with a coupling bolt whose axis is parallel to that of the corridor.
For this embodiment, the stops and the coupling members are located completely outside the part of the passage through which the upper strand passes.
The stops can be housed in notches formed in the ends of the side walls of the corridor.
Another advantageous embodiment consists in fixing the stops on the internal faces of the side walls. these comprising. next to these stops, openings or windows through which coupling members can be manipulated. These notches or openings are however provided exclusively in the side walls below the intermediate bottom; plane and the stops are, moreover, mounted in such a way that their end faces, on the side of the neighboring section, lie in the plane of the end faces of the adjacent side walls of the corridor.
The length of the stops corresponds approximately to their height, but the length must be such that these stops fully support the projecting part of the intermediate bottom of the neighboring section in the region where the sections overlap. This composition and these locations of the stops allow try to get. in the simplest way,
a link between the trunks
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
gons which adequately supports significant forces while ensuring a suitable location of the ends of the sections relative to one another without influencing the necessary and limited angular orientations that the neighboring sections may have with respect to one another. other.-
According to another embodiment of the invention, a step is formed on the upper face of each stop, the intermediate bottom of the end of the corresponding section resting on the remaining part of said upper face.
The step forms with the aforesaid intermediate bottom a notch which is open on the side of the end face of the sections and towards the interior of the corridor, this notch serving as a housing and as a guide at the end projecting from the bottom of the adjacent section in the region. of covering the ends of the sections in question.
The corridor, through which the lower section of the conveyor passes, can be closed at its lower part. The side walls of the carrier may be formed by E-sections, the intermediate bottom being fixed to the middle flange of these sections. The conveyor, established according to the invention, can, because of its united external faces, be used in conjunction with felling machines or shearers which loosen coal or other materials by chips but it can, due to its sim - light and light, also be mounted anywhere else in the mine and even on the surface.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 show, respectively in side view (parts in section) and in cross section according to II-II or III-III fig.l. two sections of corridor connected to each other.
The conveyor is made up of several sections set up one after the other. Each section, as visible in fig. 2, is formed by side walls 1, having a U-shaped cross section (for example rolled sections or embossed sheets), and by an intermediate base 2 in a sheet folded in a U-shape and of which the edges 3a, facing upwards, are fixed to the side walls 1 by welding for example. The ends of the intermediate bases 1 protrude somewhat from the corresponding ends of the side walls so that the intermediate bases of the adjacent sections can partly overlap.
To this end, the end 14 is offset downwards and passes under the end 21 of the neighboring bottom so that the upper faces of the funds of the upper passage are connected in the same plane. The edges 3a are extended to the end of the end 21 of the bottom and come into engagement between the side walls 1 of the neighboring corridor for which the edges of the bottom are cut at least over a length corresponding to that of the covering. the bottom. The end faces of the edges which follow one another in the longitudinal direction of the corridor come into contact end to end and the extensions of the edges 3a of the end 21 of the intermediate bottom cover the joints formed between the neighboring side walls 1, these joints overlap. found outside of these extensions.
In the corridors separated by the intermediate bottom 2 move the upper and lower strands of the endless scraper belt, which comprises the side chains 16 and the driving or scraper members 17 established between these chains and fixed to the latter. The scraper belt is driven by motor mechanisms, not shown, established at the ends of the conveyor.
Under the intermediate base, in the side walls and near their ends, openings or windows 4a are provided, next to which are fixed stops 18 which are established under the intermediate base and whose end faces 19 are located in the bottom. plane of the end faces 20 of the side walls. The adjacent stops therefore bear directly on one another. The length of the stops corresponds approximately to their height but it is such that
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the covering parts 21 and 14 of the neighboring intermediate bases are completely supported by pairs of adjacent stops.
We see in fig. 2 that the upper face of the stops comprises a recessed part in the form of a step 23 and that the end 21 of the intermediate base rests on the upper face 22 of the stop. Between the step 23 and the end 21 of the intermediate bottom is formed an open notch on the side of the end face of the sections and the inner face of the lower passage.
In this notch is housed and guided the protruding end 14 of the intermediate bottom of the neighboring section. The step 23 extends over the entire length of the adjacent stops so that the latter can be formed by absolutely similar parts.
In the stops, longitudinal grooves (or passages) are formed in which the coupling bolt 25 is engaged, the ends of which may include appropriate supports, for example nuts 26. The freedom of movement of the connection, between the stops 18 and the nuts 26 must be large enough so that the neighboring sections can occupy angular positions relative to one another at an angle included in the angular amplitude which may occur in practice.
In the event that the sections are not exactly in the extension of one another, the stops established on one side of the corridor are in direct contact. The length of the openings or windows 4a is such that one can put the bolt 25 in place and manipulate the connecting members through said openings.
In many cases it is possible to extend the openings or windows to the end of the corresponding side walls 1. The stops 24. which in this case comprise passages, are then housed in these openings and are fixed to the edges thereof. mask part of these openings. The threaded holes 27, formed in the side walls of the corridor ,,, are used for fixing retaining plates, guide rails or the like.
