MARTEAU,-PNEUMATIQUE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

HAMMER, -PNEUMATIC.
The present invention relates to a pneumatic hammer comprising a motor cylinder provided with a distributor covered with a cover held applied against it by the mounting of a handle behind the cylinder.
Hammers of this kind are known in which the handle is screwed onto the rear of the cylinder until it strongly presses the aforesaid cover against the distributor. Firmly pressing the cover against the distributor is essential to avoid communication between the air intake and exhaust ducts actuating the piston.
These hammers have the drawback that, as a result of the vibrations to which they are subjected, the handle unscrews and ceases to apply the cover vigorously against the distributor. It also happens that the thread by which the handle is screwed onto the cylinder deteriorates under the effect of vibrations, which has the effect of increasing the leakage between the intake and the exhaust and prevents operation. normal hammer.
The present invention relates to a hammer which does not have this drawback.
In the hammer according to the invention, a spring is interposed between the handle and the aforesaid cover in order to apply the latter against the distributor.
As a result, the handle no longer has to be screwed in completely so that the cover remains properly applied against the dispenser.
The object of the invention is also an additional feature relating to the mounting of the handle on the cylinder, thanks to which the orientation of the handle relative to the latter can be changed at will without the pressure. cover on the dispenser is changed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
According to one embodiment in which the handle is integral with an exhaust manifold, the handle is mounted on the cylinder by means of an elastic segment engaged in a groove of the handle, said elastic segment abutting. in front of a base outside the cylinder ,.
According to another embodiment in which the part of the handle engaged on the rear of the cylinder is provided with an outer rim behind which abuts an elastic segment engaged in a groove of an exhaust manifold of angular orientation. adjustable with respect to the cylinder, said manifold has an internal rim which abuts in front of a cylinder head outside the cylinder.
Whatever the form of execution, the jerking felt by the worker as he withdraws the needle from the hole he has just made can be reduced by the interposition of a damper between the cylinder base and, either the aforesaid elastic segment engaged in the groove of the handle, or the aforesaid inner rim of the exhaust manifold.
The invention also relates to a pneumatic hammer in which a needle struck by a piston is guided longitudinally in a nozzle screwed to the front end of a cylinder in which the piston moves.
In order to allow a variation in the intensity of the impact of the piston on the needles, provision is made to give a conical shape to the front end of the cylinder and to make this end press against a ring of deformable material which protrudes. inside the nozzle so that it can be driven parallel to the axis of the hammer towards the end of the nozzle when the cylinder is screwed further into it.
The invention also relates to a pneumatic hammer comprising, on the one hand ;, a cylinder in which moves a piston, the front part of which of smaller section is guided, at the front end of the cylinder, in a part. of corresponding section forming an internal rim and, on the other hand, a nozzle screwed to the front end of the cylinder and serving as a guide for a needle provided with a head of larger section than its body, the said nozzle having an inner rim between the two parts which serve as a guide for the head and the body of the needle.
Its purpose is to facilitate the release of the needle from the hole it has just made, when this needle is stuck at the bottom of this hole.
For this purpose, in the pneumatic hammer according to the invention, the distance between the inner rim of the cylinder and the impact face of the head of the needle, the opposite face of which is in contact with the inner rim of the nozzle is less than the length of the small section part of the piston.
Thanks to this arrangement, the piston continues to lightly beat the head of the needle while the worker pulls the hammer backwards.
Other features and details of the invention will become apparent from the description of the drawings appended hereto, which schematically represent - and by way of example only., Two embodiments of the hammer according to the invention. invention.
FIG. 1 is a view, after partial section, of a hammer according to the invention in which the handle is integral with the exhaust manifold.
Figure 2 shows, in a similar manner, another hammer following
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
vant the invention in which the exhaust manifold is of adjustable angular position relative to the handle.
In these two figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
The pneumatic hammer shown in FIG. 1 comprises a motor cylinder 2 on which is engaged a handle 3. The cylinder 2 is provided with a distributor 4 covered with a cover 5. This is held firmly against it. the distributor 4 by a spring 6 interposed between it and the handle 3.
The handle 3 is prevented from moving back relative to the cylinder 2 despite the action of the spring 6 which is compressed by the fact that a segment. elastic 7 engaged in a circular groove 8 of the handle serves as a support for a ring 9 against which abuts a spring 10 abutting on the other hand in front of a base 11 outside the cylinder.
The elastic segment 7 can obviously be housed in the groove 8 only after the base 11, the spring 10 and the ring 9 have been pushed back beyond this groove despite the action of the spring 60.
By this mounting of the handle 3, the angular position of this handle can be changed at will with respect to the cylinder 2 without this being able to harm the sealing of the distributor based on the energetic application of the cover 5 against this. distributor.
The annular ring 9 is provided with a sealing packing 12 which prevents the forward escape of the air contained in the exhaust box 13. Communication between this box and the intake chamber 14 is prevented. by a sealing packing 15 provided between the cylinder 2 and the part of the handle 3 engaged thereon.
The spring 10 interposed between the base 11 and the elastic segment 7 has the effect of absorbing the shocks that the worker feels when he withdraws from the hole which he has just formed the needle 16 which continues to receive. the strokes of a piston 17 moving in the cylinder 20
The piston 17 has forward un'partie 18 of smaller section than the head. The part 18 is guided at the front end of the cylinder 2 in a part 19 of this cylinder, the section of which corresponds to that of part 18. This part 19 forms with the body proper of the cylinder 2 a rim interior 20.
A nozzle 21 is screwed to the front end of cylinder 2, which serves as a guide for needle 16.
This nozzle has an inner edge 22 against which the head 23 of the needle presses while the latter is being withdrawn from the hole it has just made. The distance between the inner rim 20 of the cylinder 2 and the impact face 24 of the head 23 of the needle whose opposite face 25 is in contact with the inner rim 22 of the nozzle 21 is less than the length of the portion 18 of small section of the piston It follows that when one wants to withdraw the needle from the hole that it has formed the piston continues to beat the head of the needle., which favors the release of the needle. -Here off the piston.
In order to adjust the striking intensity of the piston on the needle, a means is provided to vary somewhat the axial position of the nozzle 21 on the front end of the cylinder 2. For this purpose the end of the cylinder 2 has a frustoconical surface 26 which bears against a frustoconical ring 27, made of a deformable material, for example rubber.
This ring is partially housed in a groove 28 of the nozzle 21.
The cylinder 2 can therefore be screwed more or less far into the rear part of the nozzle 21 after its frustoconical end 26 has come into contact with the ring 27.
In Figure 2, there is shown a pneumatic hammer in which
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the exhaust box 29 is of adjustable orientation with respect to the part of the handle 3 engaged on the cylinder 2. This part is provided with an outer rim 30 behind which abuts an elastic segment 31 engaged in a groove 32 of the exhaust manifold 29. The latter has an internal rim 32 which abuts in front of the base 11 through the intermediary of the spring 10. The internal rim 32 contains a sealing packing. chéité 12 playing the same role as that contained in the ring 9 of FIG. 1.
The jackhammer described above prevents the needle from getting stuck in the material in which it has been driven. It makes it easier to pull this needle out of the hole. It prevents adjustment of the distributor during operation. It gives rise to impacts on the handle both during the insertion and during the withdrawal of the needle, which are lower than with known hammers of the same effectiveness. It prevents the formation of dust around the worker without injection of liquid. It allows the orientation of the handle at the discretion of the worker.
It is obvious that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiments shown and that many modifications can be made in the form, the arrangement and the constitution of certain of the elements involved in its realization, provided that these modifications are not inconsistent with the purpose of each of the following claims.
