<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Ces différentes caractéristiques ressortiront davantage de l'exem- ple décrit ci-après lequel se réfère aux dessins annexés;, dans lesquels: la figure 1 est une vue en élévation d'une cheville-projectile conforme à l'invention; la figure 2 est une coupe radiale longitudinale par la cheville conforme à la figure 1 fixée sur le porte-cartouche; la figure 3 est une coupe radiale longitudinale de l'outil en po- sition de repos; la figure 4 est une coupe radiale semblable à celle de la figure 3, l'outil étant représenté en place avant une percussion; la figure 5 est une vue perspective montrant l'intérieur de la tête de l'outil; la figure 6 est une coupe suivant la ligne VI-VI de la figure 3 ; la figure 7 est une coupe suivant la ligne VII-VII de la figure 3;

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

PERCUSSION TOOL AND ANCHOR SUITABLE FOR THIS TOOL.
The object of the invention is a specially designed impact tool for rotting: driving dowels and the like in any hard material.
These anchors or the like are, in the known manner, violently displaced by the firing of a small charge of explosive enclosed in a resistant chamber, one of the bottom walls of which is formed by the corresponding part of the cylinder. head of the ankle-projectile.
The essential characteristic of said pin is that its head has a helical fin by which it is immobilized in the bottom of the load housing, also forming an explosion chamber.
The tool itself is characterized by an extremely simple mechanical arrangement conditioned in such a way that its inadvertent operation, even as a result of falls, is practically impossible.
However, the essential condition of such a percussion tool, apart from the need for systematic operation, is to have total safety against any fortuitous operation as a result of such accidental stress on the percussion members. . It is necessary, indeed, to consider that such a loaded tool constitutes a real firearm and presents the same dangers as this one.
In order to meet all these conditions with certainty, the striking member intended to urge the striker violently is normally actuated by a partial rotation around the longitudinal axis of the apparatus. This rotational movement is such that it can practically only be produced by a voluntary gesture, thus avoiding any accidental cause.
For this purpose, the impactor is guided in such a way that it can both slide longitudinally and rotate about its longitudinal axis, while being immobilized by the cooperation of a radial pin and a toothed organ. The latter, motionless, forms the element of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
guide which causes the withdrawal and rotation of the impactor as well as its momentary and timely release.
These different characteristics will emerge more clearly from the example described below, which refers to the accompanying drawings ;, in which: FIG. 1 is an elevational view of a projectile pin according to the invention; FIG. 2 is a longitudinal radial section through the pin according to FIG. 1 fixed to the cartridge holder; FIG. 3 is a longitudinal radial section of the tool in the rest position; FIG. 4 is a radial section similar to that of FIG. 3, the tool being shown in place before a percussion; Figure 5 is a perspective view showing the interior of the tool head; Figure 6 is a section taken on the line VI-VI of Figure 3; Figure 7 is a section taken on line VII-VII of Figure 3;
Figure 8 is a section similar to that of Figure 7, the safety device being shown in a second characteristic position. FIG. 9 is an exterior view of the tool, object of the invention.
According to Figure 1, the plug or buffer is formed of a body 1 having or not a threaded part 2 and a head 3; essentially characterized in that it carries on its cylindrical surface a helical fin 4.
The tool consists of a barrel 5 whose core 6 opens out towards the front in a slightly conical mouth 1 and, towards the rear, in a cylindrical chamber 8, the internal wall of which has a threaded part 9¯. The barrel 5, by said threaded part 9, is screwed onto the hammer holder 10, the rear part of which is tubular and the front part of which is provided with a central passage 11 extended by a passage of smaller diameter 12. eccentric and ending in the aforesaid cylindrical chamber 8 of the barrel. The cannon. 2. and the firing pin holder 10 are mounted with gentle friction in a tubular sheath 13.
They can slide in said sheath over a limited length, on the one hand, by the inner peripheral shoulder 14 of the sheath against which the firing pin holder 10 abuts and, on the other hand, by a ring 15 secured to the sheath. said sheath 13.by at least one fixing screw 16. Between said firing pin holder 10 and said ring 15 is interposed a spring 17 forming, in a way, the brake of the barrel. The firing pin holder 10 and the barrel 5 of which it is integral are prevented from rotating about the longitudinal axis by the fact that said firing pin holder has a longitudinal groove 18 in which the end of the hammer is engaged. a guide screw 19 passing through the corresponding part of the sheath 13.
In the central passage 11 of the firing pin holder 10 is engaged the firing pin 20 protruding widely in the hollow part of said firing pin holder and presenting, towards the front, a needle 21 engaged in the eccentric passage 12. The same striker 20 has a tubular section 22 in which is engaged a spring 23 pressing, on the one hand, on the bottom of the hollow of said tubular section and, on the other hand, on the bottom of the central passage 11 of the firing pin holder 10. In the bottom of said hollow part of the latter, is fixed a locking washer 24.
Around the front part of the sheath 13 is fixed a silencer protector 25 of a known type using at least one fixing screw 26. Approximately at the height of the guide screw 19 of the firing pin holder, the sheath 13 has a peripheral shoulder 27 against which abuts a ring 28 forming the safety stop device. This ring has a cup 29 enveloping the end of a second stop ring 30, which is secured to the sheath 13 by the fixing screw 14 already named.
Between the rings 28 and 30 is delimited a space

free in which is disposed a ring 31 provided, on the one hand, with a plug

of safety 3, passing through the sheath 11 so as to project towards the inside thereof and passing, on the other hand, through the ring 28 so as to project outwardly thereof. On the other hand, the same ring 31 carries a guide 33 also formed by a button passing through said ring 28. Ring 31 has a diameter greater than the outside diameter of the corresponding part of the sheath 13, but it is permanently stressed. by a

safety spring 34 acting in such a way that the plug 32. protrudes continuously towards the interior of the sheath 13.
The inner ring

teeth 7. In said cup 26, the neckline end of a support 38 engages the other end 32. also neckline protrudes relative to the sheath D. This support has a peripheral groove ¯40 in which the end of a screw passing through the corresponding part of the sheath 1 is engaged.
The support 38 is provided with an axial passage 42 in which the corresponding part is capable of sliding and rotating with gentle friction.

laying hammer. 2i. Between the hollow end of said hammer .2i and the corresponding bottom of the support 38 is interposed a return spring 43.
EMI3.7
on the other side of the hammer at the height of the cusps n, the support 38 has elongated windows ± ao Said hammer 3 is crossed by a pin iQ. extended through the oblong slots and coming, by its two ends, to rest in the bottom of the two opposite notches formed by the
EMI3.8
teeth 27 A handle ¯46 surrounds the posterior end of the tool and is guided forwards around the corresponding part of the ring 30 and towards
EMI3.9
the back around the neckline end l2 of the support 38.
This handle is, at the end, lined with an elastic stopper 47. In the chamber 8 is disposed, with gentle friction, the cartridge holder 48 formed, in this case, by a cylindrical bowl whose bottom is crossed. through an orifice with a large thread!
The operation of this tool thus conditioned is as follows: at rest, the barrel 2 is pushed forward by the spring 17 and its forward movement is limited by the internal shoulder 14 of the sheath 13 against which abuts the firing pin holder 10, the barrel 2 of which is solid. The safety plug 32 restricts the rearward movement of the
EMI3.10
said firing pin 10 and barrel 5. The hammer 22 is forced forward by the spring 43 and its forward movement is limited by the contact
EMI3.11
between pin 45 and the bottom of the notch separating two cusps 11 of the percussion ring 15.
Under these conditions, no untimely maneuver is possible. To load the tool, the barrel 5 is unscrewed so as to be separated from the firing pin holder and thus be removed from the sheath 13. In the bottom of the cartridge holder 48 is fixed the head 3. of a dowel or temporary buffer by the introduction of the helical vane in the helical groove 49.
In said cartridge holder 48 is introduced, with gentle friction, a cartridge and this assembly is introduced into the rear part of the barrel 5
EMI3.12
in such a way that the protruding part of the. buffer is housed in the core o while the cartridge holder 8 with its cartridge 2Q is adjusted gently in the cylindrical chamber 8. The barrel thus loaded and replaced is introduced with gentle friction in the front part of the cylinder. the sheath 13, then screwed fully onto the firing pin holder 10. A radial thrust being
EMI3.13
exerted on the guide button D. the ring 3jL moves, driving the safety plug 32, the protruding end of which disappears completely.
At this time, the front end of the barrel can be pressed against the part in which the buffer is to be pressed and a longitudinal thrust can be exerted on the sheath 13 so as to make the barrel retract and bring the an-
EMI3.14
This movement causes the compression of the spring 17 and the recoil of the drill holder 10 and of the striker 20 which comes into contact with the hammer 35. The latter presents
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a certain longitudinal play against the return spring 43 so that the firing pin 20 itself remains strictly inoperative during this recoil movement.
The barrel 2 being duly centered on the part of the part to receive the buffer struck by the tool, it suffices to turn the handle! It in the appropriate direction, so as to make the two ends of the spindle travel. radial 45 on the corresponding inclined planes of the cusps 37.
When the ends of said pin 45 reach the top of said cusps and the rotational movement of handle 46 is still continued, said ends are, in a way, released and hammer 35, violently solicited by the spring 43, moves forward by coming into energetic contact with the corresponding end of the striker 20. This stroke of the hammer 35 is limited by the contact between the ends of the pin 45 and the bottom of the corresponding notches in the ring percussion 15. The firing pin 20 thus driven out urges the primer of the cartridge 50 itself producing the firing of the charge and the percussion of the buffer. The advantages of this device are very appreciable, since the means for fixing the tampon in the tool is extremely favorable to a clean, easy and rational break between the tampon and its fixing means.
On the other hand, the tool has absolute safety because the rotational movement of the operating handle 46 is certainly the movement which can most difficultly be carried out correctly or inadvertently. The arrangement of the safety plug 32 establishes a clear separation between the percussion device and the hammer.
Finally, the operating mode itself is extremely comfortable.
It goes without saying that the thread ¯4 indicated as the means of fixing the spindle in the cartridge holder can be presented by one or more turns. These turns may or may not be continuous. They can also be replaced by parts of turns and even be reduced to radial lugs or any other protuberance allowing the fixing of the buffer in the bottom of the cartridge holder. A particular form of such an execution is constituted by the bayonet seal or any other arrangement.
This tool can also be executed with numerous variants, giving the different members different conformations or even choosing the dimensions appropriate to the different jobs to be performed.
Likewise, it is possible to replace said organs by any other equivalent organ or of equivalent function without departing from the scope of the invention.
