<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
So- lution élégante et pratique.

Description et fonctionnement
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
voulus.
Il est compréhensible que si on adoptait au lieu de cylindres des disques dont l'un indicateur (fig G) l'au- tre obturateur (fig H) le résultat serait identique, le disque 38 étant également pourvu de cercles portant des divisions dont clrque manoeuvre d'un levier en montrerait une au travers d'une fenêtre ajourée du second disque ob- turateur 39 fonctionnant de la même manière que les cylin- dres indicateur et obturateur de l'autre système ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

Indicator device for the distribution of goods.
The present invention relates to an indicator apparatus for the distribution of goods which will operate most often with the aid of a coin; which can nevertheless function without currency.
The indications written and displayed by the device may vary with each operation; are used to designate the article or merchandise intended for the user. These goods are part of a lot offered for sale at a single price per item, whatever their diversity or value. This device can be used to distribute promotional items, confectionery products or any other merchandise.
There are devices on the market which fulfill the same purpose; most often made up of a store or a tube filled with small balls of different colors, the number of which is equivalent to the number of lots or goods offered for sale. Sometimes a small numbering counter was added indicating by uh number the nature of the goods corresponding to the color of the balls; table attached to the device gave details of the colors corresponding to each number indicated on the meter.
However, very small and light balls for various reasons cannot be
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
did not always appear in the order of the table in relation to the number of the meter, either they get stuck in the pipe, or the meter moved by a sometimes irregular movement not functioning correctly thus breaking the order of distribution . On the other hand, loading the balls into the apparatus, especially in a specific order, was a slow and tedious task. Other film tape devices have been proposed.
This band advancing one division with each operation, on which division were marked the necessary indications.
These devices, because of their system, were too complicated for the purpose to be obtained, and proved to be complicated when it came to resetting to zero, especially when it came to a band. of great length.
The apparatus forming the subject of the present invention, the principle of which is extremely simple, eliminates all the aforementioned drawbacks and, given its simplicity, is more economical to manufacture.
The system proposed by the present differs from other systems in the main order in that it is made up of two cylinders rotating one inside the other, either horizontally or rather vertically; inner cylinder called indicator made either of transparent or opaque material, on which is marked by any means or rather coated with printed paper which may be more or less transparent; this paper reproducing a series of superimposed circles, each of these circles being divided on its circumference by a number of equal divisions in which appear either colors, attributes, figures or any indications used to designate the goods due to users.
A second cylinder with a diameter a little greater than the first and able to rotate concentrically with it, which we call the shutter, is provided with small windows corresponding to the dimensions of the divisions of the indicator cylinder.
The mechanism is made in such a way that at each func
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
operation using a joystick the first division bearing for example the no. 1 will appear through the small window of the shutter cylinder; this one being placed at the start so as to be in front of the 1st division and that it is thus successively with each operation of the lever, each division of the same circle appearing in front of the same window of the shutter cylinder , the latter remaining stationary during the convolution of one revolution of the indicator cylinder.
The indicator cylinder having made a complete revolution, the mechanism is combined in such a way that the next operation of the lever, the two cylinders will each advance one division and the shutter window which allowed the divisions of the lever to be seen. first circle will be replaced by an opaque part, while another shutter window will appear allowing the divisions of the second circle of the indicator cylinder to be seen. The shutter cylinder will again remain stationary for the duration of the convolution of the second circle. The same operation will be repeated for each circle to be explored by the shutter until the last division of the last circle.
Operating in this manner, the shutter cylinder will rotate by the value of one division each time the indicator cylinder has made one full revolution. It is immaterial whether the circles of the indicator cylinder are discovered by the shutter in a chronological fashion from top to bottom or from bottom to top for example, the order of exploration of the circles can be inverted; example from top to bottom, whether the 4th circle follows the 1st and the 8th to the 4th or in any other way that matters, (this) that the windows in the shutter cylinder be placed in the desired places to discover the circles in the established order.
The shutter cylinder will be constructed in such a way that the number of sets of windows on the periphery is calculated so that
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
after a complete revolution of this cylinder, the 1st window of the first series corresponds again with the 1st division of the 1st circle explored. We will therefore say that the reset is automatic.
For documentary purposes, the apparatus constructed by way of example of the invention comprises an indicator cylinder on which is printed 8 circles of 32 divisions each.
We therefore need a shutter cylinder having on its periphery 4 series of 8 windows, each of the 8 windows corresponding to a circle of the indicator cylinder.
To prevent the apparatus from being assimilated to a game of hazard, each division of the circles can be numbered in chronological order, taking care that the 1st division of the first explored circle bears for example the number one and that the 1st division of the second explored circle has a number that follows exactly the denial number of the previous circle and so on. The numbering within the colors or next to the attributes appearing in the divisions, prevents any shift of the numbers in relation to the colors or attributes, a defect mentioned above in other devices.
Completing this device, an index table will be placed on the device indicating the color or the attribute corresponding to each number and therefore we know in advance the goods which fall to the user. The latter can therefore at any time see what he will receive, what has already been distributed and what remains to be received. Hazard is therefore totally excluded.
The cylinder device described is housed in an ad hoc box; transparent light allows the division of a circle to be seen through a shutter window. This travel is the total height dimension of the cylinders.
If the indicator cylinder is made of plastic, for example, or any other transparent material,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
It is advantageous to place an electric lamp inside the cylinders in order to facilitate the reading of the results in this case the signs appearing on the circles of the indicator cylinder will be printed on a transparent paper or material.
The present invention provides that if colors or attributes that are difficult to identify by users are used, the colors or near the attributes will be printed with their names. This is to avoid any discussion.
The apparatus which has just been described can operate without a monetary mechanism, well being adapted to a mechanism already known. However, the present invention has provided a mechanism with monetary operation adhering to the recommended system, details are given in the accompanying drawings. It is obvious that without departing from the spirit of this invention the same result would be obtained by replacing the cylinders by two discs pivoting one on the other, one indieator with concentric circles with agal divisions on their circumference, the other shutter cylinder with windows arranged in such a way that they give the same result as the cylinder system described above.
It is also possible, without departing from the spirit of the present invention, to constitute the apparatus provided with a single cylinder having only a single indicator circle with divisions. This cylinder rotating in front of a fixed window showing at each operation a division of the circle. This apparently very simple system would have the great drawback of only being able to present a very small number of divisions unless this cylinder was given an exaggerated diameter and in practice almost impossible. This serious drawback is precisely countered by the adoption of two cylinders with superimposed circles and shutter with movable windows replacing a single large diameter circle. Elegant and practical solution.

Description and operation
The apparatus described below, exemplary application of the present invention, consists in substance of three essential parts, notably the housing, the device of the indicator cylinders and shutter together which can operate without the addition of an operating mechanism. monetary; third, a coin-operated training system.
1) The box fig C and E consists mainly of a round box 1, provided with a cover which can be fixed permanently. This box has at the bottom remained open three tabs 2, each with a fixing hole, the tabs entering the grooves 3 of the cast iron base 4, the tabs fixed to it by screws 5 from the inside. of the base, fig C to make it impossible for the user to dismantle the box. A transparent indicator 6 makes it possible to see the results exuded by the cylinders 11 and 14 see fig A.B.C.D. The base 4 supports the drive mechanism and a partition 7 separates the mechanism from the cash box 8 closed by a cover 9 (see fig. C) may be hinged and provided with a lock 10.
2) Indicator and shutter device. This main part of the apparatus consists of two cylinders 11 and 14.
Referring to figs C and D, we see the indicator cylinder 11 fixed by an intermediate 12 on the axis 13. The shutter cylinder 14 by means of the part 15 turns freely on a hollow axis 16, pivoting itself. even on the axis 13. A double ratchet wheel 17 and 18 fixed on the axis 13 by a pin, allows the intermittent advance by means of the control lever 19 and the pawl 20 of a circumferential part of the cylinder. indicator 11.
The number of teeth of the ratchets 17 and 18 will be equal in number to the circumferential divisions of the cylinder 11. Each time the lever 19 is operated, the cylinder 11 will rotate by the value of one division. Note that the pawl 20 causes
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
the ratchet 17. The ratchet 18 provided with the pawl 21 prevents the cylinder 11 from advancing two divisions at a time. Also fitted to the ratchet 17, a pawl 22 prevents the rearward rotation of the cylinder 11. The shutter cylinder 14 provided with perforated windows (see fig B) rotates by a circumferential division equal to those of the cylinder. 11 and this each time a complete turn of the latter has been completed.
This movement will be simultaneous with that of the advance of the cylinder 11, because the lever 23, which carries a drive finger 24 which during the immobility of the cylinder 14 rubs on the body 25; this has a hollow 26; is understandable that when the finger 24 arrives at the location of the hollow 26; the finger 24 will enter the hollow 26, bringing with it the ratchet 27 integral with the cylinder 14 and thereby the cylinder will rotate by one division. The consequence of this movement will be that another window of cylinder 14 will replace the previous one in front of sight glass 6 which will discover the series of divisions of another circle of cylinder 11.
Note that the indicator cylinder 11 has a series of circles 28 each having an equal number of divisions 29 (see fig. A) on which are marked the signs, attributes, figures or colors which must determine the nature of the goods to be distributed. users of the device. The cylinder 14 will be provided with a determined number of series of perforated windows each of these series will have a number equal to that of the number of circles 28 of the cylinder 11. There will be a sufficient number of series of windows in the drum 14 for exactly cover its circumference; this way when the cylinder 14 will have made a complete revolution, the first window corresponding to the first circle 28 of the cylinder 11 will again discover the first division of this circle.
In summary, the maneuver will consist in operating the control lever 19 which, using the pawls and ratchets, will advance a division with each movement.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
cylinder 11 visible through a window cut out from the shutter cylinder and visible through the sight glass of the box. All the divisions of the first circle of drum 11 will thus be explored and once the first circle has been explored the following movement of lever 19 will act simultaneously on the two cylinders by means of the parts described above. The result will be that cylinder 11 having rotated by one division as before, the shutter cylinder will also have rotated by division, another window will discover the division of another circle of drum 11.
The drum 14 will again remain motionless during all the exploration movements of the second circle and so on, until exploration of the divisions of all the circles of the cylinder 11. As already said in the preamble, it can facilitate the reading of the results. indicated on the indicator cylinder by making the latter of transparent material and translating an electric lamp inside the drum 11. If this cylinder is made of opaque material, in this case one or two tiny lamps can be placed in recesses provided for this purpose in the sight glass 6 (fig E). A new and very simple method to avoid discussions on the interpretation of the signs, attributes or colors indicated on the indicator cylinder 11 is to print in each division in a visible manner the name of the color or attribute in question.
Monetary training system. The device which has just been described can be adapted to any already existing mechanical system operating using a coin. However, the system described below having been specially designed allows perfect operation of the device.
Referring to figure F a lever 30 on this lever a cut-out plate 31 to the exact size of the chosen coin, part of the hole is perforated so that the edge of the coin can strike the organs

wanted. Packing) this lever 30 in the direction of arrow 32, the coin will at a given moment come up against a lug 33 fixed on a small lever 34.
The latter pivoting on an axis fixed on the lever 19 already mentioned above which will have the effect of placing in the path of the stop 35 fixed on the lever 30 another lug 36, which will come to be housed in the hollow 37 of the lever 19 and will allow the advancement of the latter. It is understandable that the lever 19 carrying the driving pawl 20 will allow the system of cylinders to be driven as described in the previous paragraph. It is obvious that if one wanted to operate the lever 30 without inserting a suitable coin into the hole in the plate fixed to the latter, the nonexistent coin would not come into contact with the stop 35 and the lug 36, the system lever 30 would not work would work in a vacuum. Hence the obligation for the case of monetary operation to introduce the required coin.
It is understandable that if we adopted, instead of cylinders, discs of which one indicator (fig G) the other shutter (fig H) the result would be identical, the disc 38 also being provided with circles bearing divisions whose clrque operation of a lever would show one through a perforated window of the second shutter disc 39 operating in the same way as the indicator and shutter cylinders of the other system;
to say that each maneuver discovering a division of one of the circles of the indicator disc, and after the complete revolution of the disc the obturator disc successively exploring all the divisions of another circle through another window of the shutter , another window each fixed on a diameter corresponding to that of a corresponding circle until complete exploration of all the divisions shown on the indicator disc 38. This arrangement remaining in the spirit of the invention can be coupled to all

mechanical system with monetary operation of the same kind as that described above.
CLAIMS 1) Indicator apparatus for the distribution of various goods, consisting of two cylinders rotating one inside the other, each separated by a free space; the inner cylinder called indicator, the outer cylinder called shutter, both rotating in a concentric fashion.
The indicator cylinder may be made of transparent or opaque material, has marked on its periphery, (dignified) attributes, colors or figures and animated by an intermittent advancement movement, with a stroke determined by an appropriate mechanism. . The shutter cylinder having at determined locations on its periphery cut-out windows or lights, this cylinder being driven by an intermittent forward movement, by a defined stroke serving to mask or (memorize) a part. of the indicator inner cylinder, using a suitable mechanism.
