Fig. 1 représente,à titre indicatif, un paquet tel que fermé au moyen de la machine ;
Fige 2 est une vue générale et sèhématique de la machine, dans la position qui correspond au moment où les organes de collage Tont entrer en action, le couteau ...allant.' fonctionner;
Fig. 3 montre plus particulièrement la position des organes de collage à la fin de leur fonction ;
Fige 4 donne, de face, la vue à plus grande échelle des rouleaux entraîneurs-humecteurs;
Fig. 5 est une coupe verticale, à la même échelle que la fig. 4, du guide pour la bande de papier humectée ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Machine for gluing a gummed strip onto sachets, bundles, bundles and other objects, The present invention relates to an automatic machine, with manual or motor control, for moistening, cutting and gluing an adjustable length of paper strip on a bag, a boot, etc., in order to keep this boot, this bag, etc ...
This machine basically consists of: a frame, a holder for a roll of gummed paper web, a pair of drive-moistening rollers, scissors cutting the continuous web of paper after it is wetted, and a guide in the frame to bring the paper. paper moistened with the members applying it on the two perpendicular faces of the pack, these members being supported by a vertical rod with reciprocating movement in both directions and which, in its descent, first applies to the upper face of the boot or package an elastic support cushion, then, this cushion remaining in place on the package, then lower against the adjacent side face of the package, a pressure roller which folds down and that on this face the end of the section of gummed paper whose the other part is retained between the elastic cushion and the upper face of the package,
all active parts of the machine and

members for applying the gummed paper being for example actuated from a single camshaft of the machine.
Other construction characteristics of such a machine will emerge from the description below, given with reference to the appended drawing, which gives a preferred but non-limiting example thereof, and in which:
Fig. 1 represents, by way of indication, a package as closed by means of the machine;
Fig 2 is a general and diagrammatic view of the machine, in the position which corresponds to the moment when the gluing members come into action, the knife ... going. ' function;
Fig. 3 shows more particularly the position of the gluing members at the end of their function;
Fig. 4 gives, from the front, the view on a larger scale of the driving-moistening rollers;
Fig. 5 is a vertical section, on the same scale as FIG. 4, the guide for the wet paper strip;
Fig. 6 gives the detail of the cam adjusting the length of the paper delivered at each operation of the machine.
40 designates a stable frame on the vertical upright of which is fixed a vertical sleeve 16 'in which can slide and be fixed the rod 16 terminated at the top by the plate 16 "on which the package, bowl, bag, etc. is placed. and providing a strip of gummed paper A on two perpendicular faces, as shown in fig. 1, this pack being applied at the same time against the vertical plate 15, the support rod 15 'of which is adjustable on the upright of the frame ,
1 denotes the roll of gummed paper tape 7, the axis of which is supported by the frame, 29 being the usual known member elastically applied to the roll to hold the paper.
The tape 7 starting from the roller 1 passes over the guide roller 2, then from there passes between the two wet-feed rollers 3, 4, between the knives 5-6 and passes through the guide 30; fixed in the frame 40, to end above the package 14 (FIG. 2), between the gluing members 8 and 9 which will be discussed later.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The tangent moistening rollers (fig. 2 & 4) have a width of approximately 5mm. smaller than the width of the paper web 7; the lower roll rotates in a small water reservoir 28 so as to moisten, by rotating, the gummed lower face of the paper tape, As this roll is narrower than the tape, the latter is not wet on its edges (over a width of approximately 2.5mm.), this in order to prevent this tape sticking to the internal surfaces of the guide 30. On the other hand, the lower roller 3 is provided, in the middle of its width, a circular groove 3 'of triangular section, into which penetrates a corresponding rib 4' of the upper roller.
Passing between these two rollers, the tape 7 is not only driven by the rotation of these and moistened but is also deformed according to a longitudinal triangular fold or rib 7 '(fig. 6), in order to stiffen the tape so that it does not become loose when it comes out of the guide 30 and that it maintains the horizontal flat position indicated in fig.2.
On leaving the drive-wiper mechanism, the tape 7 passes between the upper fixed and lower movable knives 5, then passes through the fixed horizontal guide 30 and arrives under the gluing members 9 - 8.
The gluing member 8 is a cushion lined below with foam rubber or other equivalent material, carried by two rods 8 'which cross the horizontal bar 13 and terminate above this bar by a wider part or a transverse pin 13' to prevent this is to leave the bar. Between the bar 13 and the cushion 8, springs 13 "are threaded onto the rods 8 '. The cushion 8 can therefore approach the bar 13, compressing the springs which tend to force it downwards.
The bar 13 is attached to the lower end of a vertical rod 41 sliding in the fixed sleeve 42 of the frame, said rod was connected by a pivot 43 to the end of a connecting rod 18 itself articulated to. the end of a double lever 19 which pivots at 44 and whose other arm ends in the roller 45. On the pivot 43, a lever 11 pivots, one end of which cooperates with a stop 12 which is fixed or adjustable in position. , while its other end is articulated to an arm 10, terminated below by the rotating roller 9, a
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
spring 32 acting on the arm 10 to apply the roller 9 against the cushion 8.
The control starts from the crank 17, operated by hand, to turn the gear 27 in constant mesh with the gear 26 of double diameter, which is wedged on the general shaft 46 or camshaft @ the machine. . This shaft 46 carries a series of cams 20, 21 and 25 controlling the various mechanisms described above, as will be explained.
The cam 21, provided for the driver-wetting mechanism 3-4, cooperates with the roller 22 'which ends the angled lever 22 pivoting at 23' and the other arm of which ends in a toothed sector 23 in constant engagement with the spur gear 36 'rotating idle on the axis of the driving roller 3; this pinion 36 'is integral with the claw coupling part 36, the other part 35 of which is wedged on the shaft of 3. A spring 37 is interposed between the pinion 36' and the stop 37 'wedged on the shaft of 3.
The segment 23 being driven by the pendular oscillation movement resulting from the attack by the cam 21, turns the pinion 36 'alternately in one direction and the other, thus putting the shaft of 3 in periodic rotation in a single direction, that of the clutch of the coupling, while, for the other direction of rotation of the pinion 36 ', the latter turns f or on the shaft of 3, the two parts of the coupling sliding the one on the other thanks to the spring 37 which allows the displacement of the pinion 36 'on its shaft. The shaft of the roller 3 carries a pinion 34 in continuous engagement with the similar pinion 33 wedged on the shaft of the roller 4. At each revolution of the main shaft 46, a determined quantity of the band 7 will therefore be driven, the length of which depends on the eccentricity of cam 21.
A: the effect of being able to modify this length, the invention provides for making the eccentricity of the cam 21 adjustable; for this purpose (fig. 6), the cam is in two parts 38-21, the first of which can approach or move away from the part 21 thanks to the slots 39 and the screws 39 'housed in them, both parts 21 and 38 overlap in part by thinner tabs, one of which comprises the slots 39 and the other, the screws 39 '.
Cam 25 acts on the rotating roller which terminates an arm of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
double lever 24, pivoting at 24 'and the other arm of which is connected to the cutting blade 5 by means of the rod 31, to raise the knife 5 and cut the tape 7 thanks to the upper fixed blade 6.
The cam 20 controls the lever 19 which, by pivoting, causes the rod 41 to descend vertically and with it, the gluing members 8 and 9; in this downward movement, the cushion 8 applies the tape 7, which has just been cut by 5-6, on the upper face of the package 14; the downward movement continuing, the cushion 8 remains fixed, the plate 13 continuing to descend by compressing the springs 13 ", while the end of the lever 11, coming into contact with the stop 12, determines the pivoting of this lever around ' of 43, the roller 9 descending along the vertical face of the packet 14, applying therein the part of the strip 7 which has remained free, the application being made in cooperation with the traction of the spring 32.
It can be seen that the rib 7 'formed in the tape by the drive rollers 3, 4 disappears during gluing, under the pressure exerted on the tape by the members 8 and 9, the paper tape A therefore being smooth and applied well to flat, as shown in Figure 1.
The gear 26 having a diameter double that of the gear 27, it takes two turns of the crank 17 to perform a complete revolution of the shaft 46, during which turn, starting from a determined position of the components, all the necessary operations are carried out automatically, the parts all returning to their original position. We could obviously adopt another transmission ratio, and we could also provide a motor control; in this case, a ratchet clutch must be provided to stop the machine after each complete revolution of shaft 46.
