<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>

positive metering device for the material to be packaged, with transverse sealing jaws reciprocating in the wrapping direction to pull the casing of wrapping material from the forming tube and to establish an upper transverse seal line a filled bag and: a lower transverse seal line for the next bag, as well as a cutting knife to slice the casing of packaging material between the two transverse seal lines.
Packaging machines of this kind are known per se. The up and down movement of the transverse gluing jaws, which simultaneously transport the casing of packaging material, takes place in the known machines by mechanical means. . If, in these known machines, it is desired to modify in a manner known per se the length of the path of the transverse sealing jaws and therefore the length of the casing bag to be produced, the packaging machine must be stopped for this purpose. .
This is a big drawback, because such a change in the length of the travel path of the transverse sealing jaws has to be done not only when one has to make bags of another length, but also when, in particular with printed packaging material webs, the transverse weld lines are no longer in the correct place in relation to the print, for example due to an irregularity in the print or an elongation of the strip of packaging material. In known packaging machines, it is in this case necessary to stop the machine in order to readjust the strip of packaging material.
An object of the present invention is to eliminate this drawback and to provide an arrangement with which it is possible to continuously modify, with the machine in motion, the length of travel of the transverse sealing jaws.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In the known packaging machines described, the introduction of the material to be packaged into the casing of packaging material takes place under mechanical control at a well-defined place in the working cycle of the packaging machine. - lage. This has various disadvantages, in particular that the working speed of the packaging machine is limited in certain circumstances by the rate of fall of the material to be packaged into the casing of packaging material. By adjusting the moment when the metering device discharges into the casing of packaging material and according to the type and quantity of product to be packaged and according to the working cycle of the machine. 'packaging and dosing device,
it would undoubtedly be possible to increase the working speed of the packaging machine.
Another object of the present invention is therefore to provide an arrangement with which it is possible to regulate, with the machine in motion, the moment in time of the discharge of the metering device into the material hose. packaging in relation to the work cycle of the packaging machine.
To solve these problems, in a packaging machine according to the present invention, a hydraulically actuated cylinder and piston ring is provided for the vertical reciprocation of the transverse seal jaws, including the length of the path. stroke, with a constant top dead center of the transverse sealing jaws can be varied by varying the length of the short stroke of an adjusting cylinder piston, even with the maehine in motion,
To solve other problems posed by the invention,

adjustable, with the packaging machine in motion as well as with the machine stopped, in relation to the working rate of the whole machine, so that the filling with the material to be packed can be done in a moment any which may be selected during the manufacture of the casing bag packaging.

in Figure 1, in which the object of the invention can be applied, is known per se. It consists of a machine frame 1, qu. is provided on its upper face with a cover plate. To the cover plate 2 is fixed, perpendicular to this plate, a shaping and filling tube 3 in front of the machine frame 1. The tube of the cane and filling 3 passes through the cover plate 2 and, 'widens to above this funnel elm plaque.
On the cover plate 2 is arranged a metering device of known type (not shown). Below the neck plate 2 is arranged, on the forming and filling tube 3, a forming shoulder 4. The heat-sealable packaging material is held in reserve under the force of a. roller 5 arranged on the back side of the machine frame 1, The web of wrapping material is taken from the roller S and brought, via a guide roller 6 to the shaping shoulder 4, which place the packing material in a band * around the forming tube 3.
At this time, the longitudinal edges * of the strip of packaging material overlap slightly at the endrota (Figure 2). A longitudinal welding jaw 7 working against the forming tube 3 welds the longitudinal edges of the strip of packaging material together, by a longitudinal welding line d, so that a tube of material d 'is formed. packaging. Below the shaping and filling tube 3 are arranged transverse welding jaws 8 and 9. They are movable in the direction of the two-pointed arrow shown in Figure 1, horizontally and perpendicular to the casing of material. packaging.
In addition, these transverse welding jaws 8 and 9 are movable vertically, in a manner described in more detail below. In the closed state (Figures 1 and 3), the transverse sealing jaws 8 and 9 press together

the casing of packaging material and then establish, by their upper halves fl and f2 an upper transverse weld line b and, by their-, lower-, lower-, si and e2 halves, a lower transverse weld line c, over 3 .se casing of sheet material.
At the same time as the transverse weld lines are established, the transverse weld jaws 8 and 9 move downwards and pull the casing of packing material from the roll 5 over the guide roller 6 and the end. shaping shoulder 4, down. The amplitude of the downward movement of the transverse seal jaws 8 and 9 corresponds to the length of a bag to be manufactured (Figure 5). During the downward movement of the transverse seal jaws 8 and 9, the casing of sheet material is simultaneously cut between the two weld lines by a cutting knife 12. The toothed cutting knife has has been shown in isolation in Figure 4, in a partial plan view.
After reaching the bottom dead center, the cross seal jaws 8 and 9 open, the finished bag is cut falls down and the cross seal jaws return, in the open position, to their point position. death superior.
Simultaneously, through the filling tube 3, a metered quantity of material to be packaged is introduced into the metering cup 11, inside the casing of sheet material. To this end, the slide 10 is removed, closing off the dosing cup 11 at its base.
After the upper dead center position of the transverse seal jaws 8 and 9 has been reached and after the above-described filling of the material to be packaged, the transverse seal jaws close again and the hose pulling operation of recom- mended sheet material while simultaneously establishing the transverse weld lines,
Referring to Figures 6 and 7, it will be described below

after the device according to the invention, working hydruli- cally, with the aid of which the vertical displacement of the transverse welding jaws 8 and 9 is effected.
By virtue of this device, as will emerge from the description below, it is. It is possible to modify the amplitude of the vertical displacement of the transverse welding jaws 8 and 9 while the machine is in motion, by modifying the position of the lower dead center of the transverse welding jaws 8 and 9. without the position of the upper dead center of these transverse welding jaws 8 and 9 is modified.
The transverse weld jaws 8 and 9 are fixed to a cylinder 86, able to move vertically and closed at its upper part. The cylinder 86 is guided in sliding bearings 13 and 14, which are supported in the machine frame 1; In the dry cylinder there is a plaecon 1 (, which is rigidly fixed by a hollow rod 16 to the machine frame 1.
The piston 15 is pierced in its middle, so that the interior of the cylinder 86 is placed in communication by this passage with the internal space of the hollow rod 16. On the end situated at the outside, away from the piston 15, of the hollow rod 16 is threaded a pipe 17 which connects the inside of the cylinder 86, by the intermediary of the hollow rod 16, to the internal space of a cylinder 18 (Figure 7). In the cylinder 18 is placed a piston 19. A motor driven shaft 21 (in a way not shown *) is rotatably supported in bearings 22 and 23. These bearings 22 and 23 are fixed to the machine frame 1.
A crank 24 is provided at the lower end of the shaft 21 and is integral with the latter. The crank 24 is connected to the aforementioned piston 19 by a rod 25. The connection between the rod 25 and the crank 24 is constituted by a ball joint 26. The connection. pulls the piston 19 and the rod 25 is established by a ball joint 27. Thanks to the arrangement of the two ball joints
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
riques 26 and 27 on the ends of the rod 25, a possibility of free movement of the cylinder 18 with the piston 19 therein is afforded vis-à-vis the crank 24 and the shaft 21 which makes body with it.
The cylinder 18 is fixed to a caliper 28, which can pivot about an axis 42 fixed to the machine frame 1.
The axis 42 is tangent to the circle described by the crank 24, when * the shaft 21 rotates around its longitudinal axis.
The shaft 21 is provided with an eccentric cam 29, which cooperates with a plunger 30. The plunger 30 moves into a cylinder 31 and is applied under the action of a pressure spring 32 elastically against. the cam 29. The cylinder 3 is connected, by a one-way valve 33 with a liquid reservoir 34. Further, it is connected by a one-way valve 35 to a pipe 36 which passes through the cam. pivoting about an axis 38 and cooperating with the upper end of the cylinder 86 actuates, by means of a bar 39, a valve 40 which is disposed in a bypass of the pipe 36 and which establishes :
the connection with a pipe 41 which returns to the reservoir 34.
A tension spring is fixed, on the one hand, to the upper end of the cylinder 86 and, on the other hand, to the machine frame 1 and it tends to bring the cylinder 86 downwards.
The internal space of the cylinder 86, the hollow rod 16, the pipe 17 and the internal space of the cylinder 18 as well as the reservoir 34, the line 36 and the line 41 are filled with a liquid.
The vertical reciprocating motion of Cylinder 86 and hence the up and down motion of welding jaws 8 and 9 results from the fact that piston 19 is moved in cylinder 18 with a reciprocating motion.

which has the consequence that the liquid, during the descent aouvettt of the piston 19, is expelled via the t \ '1av 17 into the cylinder chamber 86, such aorta as the ylin. dre 86 slides upwards and, during the upward movement of the piston 19, the liquid flows out of the cylinder 86, so that this cylinder 86 slides down under the sup-

add spring 20.
The tension spring 20 then ensures that, during the upward movement of the piston 19, there is no depression in the cylinder 86, tiut9. * Au ** # milking that the cylinder 86 immediately moves towards the same
The up and down movement of piston 19 in cylinder 18 is effected by motor driven shaft 21 and will now be described in more detail. During the total tion of the shaft 21 around its longitudinal axis, the crank 24 describes a circle. In this case, the connecting rod 25 between the crank 24 and the piston 15 moves on the end surface.

veloppe of an imaginary cone, the surface of the bzz circle of which is generated by the crank 24 and the vertex of which is located in the ball joint 27.
When the longitudinal axis of cylinder 18 coincides, as shown in solid lines at Fi-

Figure 7, with the longitudinal axis of the shaft 21, this imggî * naire cone is a right cone. In this borderline case, the piston 19 in the cylinder 18 does not move up and down during rotation 21, so that therefore the cylinder 86 also remains stationary.
EMI9.5
As a result of the suspension of the cylinder 18 out of the caliper 28 being able to pivot about the axis 42, it is, however, possible to make the cylinder 18 pivot laterally. It can be seen that the imaginary cone becomes when

oblique cone.
If we imagine then, to facilitate the eo # pr .. hension, that the crank 24 has rotated 180 from the position shown in Figure 7 (this position corresponds
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
at the lower dead center of the piston 19 and therefore at the upper dead center of the cylinder 86), the spherical joint 26 is then located immediately next to the axis 42, which forms, as already described, a tangent to the pivot circle of the crank 24. It can be seen that the cylinder 18 can pivot laterally in this position of the crank 24 without the piston 19 moving in the cylinder 18. The position of the upper dead center of the cylinder 86 therefore always remains constant. aunt.
If the crank 24 is however in the position ra- shown in Figure 7 (which corresponds to the upper dead center of the piston 19 and therefore to the lower dead center of the cylinder 86), the piston 19 moves during a lateral pivoting of the cylinder 18 by a distance s in this cylinder 18 upwards. The distance a increases as the deflection of cylinder 18 increases.
In operation, the shaft 21 constantly rotates around its longitudinal axis. A complete rotation then corresponds to an up and down movement of the cylinder.
86 and therefore transverse sealing jaws 8 and
9. The cylinder 18 pivots, in operation, more or less widely laterally about the axis 42. It follows from the above description that the travel path s of the piston 19 and consequently of the sealing jaws transverse 8 and 9, increases with increasing lateral deflection of cylinder 18. However, only the position of the upper dead center of the piston 19 and therefore of the lower dead center of the cylinder
86 is then modified.
The lower dead center of the piston 19 and therefore the upper dead center of the cylinder 86 (and consequently of the transverse sealing jaws 8 and 9) remain constant.
The modification of the length of the running path by pivoting the cylinder 18 can be carried out both with the machine in motion and with the machine stationary.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
The pivoting: of the cylinder 18 is carried out either by mechanical means (not shown) or manually, Using a fixing device (not shown), the cylinder 18 can be immobilized in any position obliquely desired.
To compensate for a possible loss of liquid from the cylinder chamber 86 and the internal space of the hollow rod 16 in connection with this chamber, from the pipe 17 and from the cylinder 18, the cam 29 is operated. on the shaft 21. The cam 29 moves the plunger 30 on each rotation of the shaft 21, which in fact corresponds to an up and down movement of the transverse sealing jaws 8 and 9, in the cylinder.
31. The return movement of the plunger 30 hora of the cylinder 31 is effected by a pressure spring 32. During this return movement, pressure liquid is sucked from the reservoir 34 through the valve 33 Shortly before the cylinder 86 reaches its highest position, this sucked liquid is expelled by the plunger 30 advanced by the cam 29, through the valve 35 and the line 36, at 1 '. inside the hollow rod 16. In order to prevent the cylinder 86 from moving, in the case of the supply of an excess of liquid, beyond its position of upper dead center, the lever is made to act. 37.
Cylinder 86 rotates lever 37 into upper dead center position such that rod 39 opens valve 40 on line 36, so that the excess of the amount of liquid supplied by the con - pick 36 is returned through line 41 to reservoir 34.
The upper dead center position of cylinder 86 therefore cannot be changed by supplying pressurized liquid through line 36. Simultaneously, by means of the arrangement of lever 37, cylinder 86 is brought to s. '' stop briefly in its upper dead center position,

so that it is possible to close the transverse sealing jaws 8 and 9 without simultaneously occurring a vertical displacement of these transverse sealing jaws.
There is shown in Figures 8 and 9 a device with the aid of which it is possible to modify the moment of the emptying of the metering device in the filling tube 3 and therefore in the casing of packaging material. A shaft 50 is driven by the drive device of the packaging machine, for example together with the shaft 21. On this shaft 50 is rotatably disposed a worm wheel 51, which is guided in a bearing 52 fixed on the machine frame 1. Below the worm wheel 51 is fixed, around the shaft 50, a plate 53. This plate 53 is in one piece with the shaft 50 and rotates by therefore with this one. The worm wheel 51 is therefore rotatably supported between the bearing 52 and the plate 53.
By fixing the bearing 52 on the machine frame 1, axial displacement of the shaft 50 is avoided. On the upper face of the plate 53 are provided, with mutual spacing, two supports 54 and 55. in which a shaft 56 is rotatably supported.
On this shaft 56 is threaded a worm 57 which cooperates with the worm wheel 51. On the side of the support 55 is fixed on the shaft 56 another worm wheel 58. With this screw wheel endless 58 engages a worm 59, which is fixed to the shaft of an electric motor 60. The electric motor 60 is hooked to the plate 53.
The electric motor 60 is supplied with current by means of a cable.
61 and slip rings 62, which are rigidly fixed to the shaft 50 with an appropriate insulation: which cooperates with the beams 63. The electric motor 60 is a motor which can rotate both to the right and to the left and of which the direction of rotation is determined by the actuation of a suitable switch not represented The actuation of the dosing device, for example
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
example, the withdrawal of the slide 10 under the metering cup 11, has been achieved by a stop 51a on the endless via wheel 51, in a determined angular position of this worm wheel.
The stop 51a is indicated in Figure 8 by the part of the worm wheel 51 protruding beyond the bearing 52.
When the engine 60 is stopped, the endless via wheel 51 supplying material to the packaging hose is driven by the shaft 50 by which this worm wheel 51 is connected to this shaft. 50 by means of the stopped worm 57, the worm wheel 58, the worm 59, the motor 60 and the plate 53, If on the contrary the electric motor 60 is caused to turn towards to the right or to the left by actuating the aforementioned switch not shown,
the angular position of the worm wheel 51 changes relative to the shaft 50 in one or the other direction This modification of the angular position of the shaft 50 is aimed at the worm wheel end 51 is done by means of the worm wheel 58 described cooperating with the end screw 59.
By switching on the electric motor 60 to rotate it in one or the other direction, it is therefore possible. The timing of the feeding of material into the packaging material casing, for example therefore the withdrawal of the slide 10, in relation to the duty cycle of the packaging machine when this machine is in motion as well as when it is in motion. 'she is stationary. Preferably, a coarse adjustment of the material feed will be carried out with the machine stationary by actuating the motor 60 and then, with the machine in motion, by actuating the machine again. the electric motor 60, fine adjustment of the material feed,
It should be understood that the present invention is in no way limited to the above embodiments and that many modifications can be made thereto without
