<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

A CALORIFER
It is known that the production of heaters or hot air generators presents production difficulties, mainly as regards the heating surfaces in contact with the ignited fuel or directly exposed to the radiation of the flames.
It is in fact difficult to ensure effective cooling of these surfaces,
This difficulty is overcome by using a steam or hot water boiler and a finned tube air heater or other known system.
However, this solution requires the use of two devices and is therefore more expensive.
The present invention relates to an organic combination of three elements: air heater by the fumes, air heater by hot water or steam, a combination which eliminates the drawbacks mentioned above.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In other words, it consists of the use of a boiler having a powerful water-cooled fireplace and a small heating surface, such that the fumes @ escape at a still high temperature. The heat contained in these fumes is transmitted to the air by means of an exchanger of a known system, to. tubes, finned tubes or plates.
The hot water or the steam produced in the boiler gives up its heat to the air in an air heater of one of the known types, preceding the smoke-air heater.
In summary, the invention consists in the combination: boiler with reduced heating surface + flue gas-air exchanger + steam or hot water-air exchanger, advantageously replacing heaters or boiler-air heater systems.
By way of nonlimiting example, the figures
1 and 2 represent a possible variant embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 shows the cross section in elevation of the apparatus. The boiler has a double-walled combustion chamber 1, the fire tubes 2, the grate 3, the loading door 4 and the ashtray door 5.
The flue gas-air heat exchanger has internal air circulation tubes 6 embedded in tube plates 7.
The hot water-air heat exchanger comprises a coil of finned tubes 8 and the collectors of the coil 9 and 10, a fan It pulsates the air through the coil 8 and the exchanger 6, the outlet of which is connected to the distribution network.
Figure 2 shows a longitudinal sectional elevation of the apparatus.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The operation is as follows: fumes from combustion on the grid 3 pass through the exchanger 6 and are discharged at 12 to the chimney. The air is heated in contact with the coil 8 and the exchanger 6. The coil is supplied with hot water by the double jacket 1.
The principle of the invention allows numerous variants of execution. Thus, the hearth may be of one of the known types: with hand loading, with inclined grate and fuel feed by gravity, with screw feed hearth or any other type of hearth.
Likewise, the smoke-air exchanger can be of one of the known types: with vertical or horizontal tubes, with finned tubes, with plates or any other type of known exchanger.
The hot water-air or steam-air exchanger can also be of a known type: finned tubes or smooth tubes or cast iron or steel elements.
This exchanger can be omitted if a sufficient quantity of hot water can be used or else replaced by a water heater boiler.
Likewise, part or all of the water vapor produced in the boiler can be used for a purpose other than heating the water, for example for additional radiators.
Hot air can be forced or drawn in by a fan; it can also be put into circulation simply by density difference.
