Broche expansible pour assemblage de menuiseries.
EMI1.1
------------

Fig. 3 est une vue en élévation de la, broche introduite dans une pièce figurée en coupe, avant son expansion dans cette pièce à laquelle elle formera, tenon d'assemblage; Fig. est une vue en élévation de la.broche fixée par ex- pansion dans une pièce figurée en coupe et pour la.quelle elle for- me tenon d'assemblage;
Fig. 5 est une vue en élévation de la broche après son expan- sion dans les deux pièces qu'elle assemble et qui sont figurées en coupe;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Expanding spindle for joinery assembly.
EMI1.1
------------
The invention relates to an expandable spindle for joinery assemblies and its object is to provide a spindle making it possible to firmly assemble parts devoid of assembly tenons, said spindle being fixed by expansion in one of the parts of the assembly. assembly to form expandable tenons engaging in the other part.
The invention consists in that the cylindrical pin is formed of two semi-cylindrical halves in the mating faces of which are cut two matching grooves forming an axial hole in which are engaged by the two ends two cooperating expansion wedges. The wedges are preferably the same length as the pin, or substantially the same length as the latter to distribute the expansion force throughout its length.
In order to clarify ideas, the accompanying drawing represents an example of embodiment and application of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an end view of the spindle before its expansion;
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 2 is an end view of this pin after expansion;
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the spindle inserted into a part shown in section, before its expansion into this part to which it will form, an assembly tenon; Fig. is an elevational view of the spindle fixed by expansion in a part shown in section and for which it forms an assembly tenon;
Fig. 5 is an elevational view of the spindle after its expansion into the two parts which it assembles and which are shown in section;
Fig. 6 is a schematic view showing the application of pins according to the invention, to the assembly of the crosspieces of a door to the upright thereof.
The spindle a is formed of two semi-cylindrical halves a1 and 8.2 joined by the flat faces b1 and b2 in which matching grooves form a square axial hole c (Fig. 1) in which are engaged by the two ends two co-operating wedges d and e which, when fully engaged, separate the two halves of the spindle as can be seen in Figs.
2 and 5.
To assemble part f to. part g (Figs. 3 to 5) we start by engaging the spindle a by its end in which the wedge d is engaged without separating the halves, in a cylindrical hole h of an equal or at least equal depth half the length of the spindle, then the spindle is driven completely into the hole, the wedge d which rests on the bottom of the hole causing the expansion of the. pin as can be seen in fig. 4. We then introduce the wedge e in the hole of the spindle and we engage the latter in a hole of the picece g (Fig. 5) similar to the hole h of the. part f, and the parts f and g are brought together, for example with a clamp, until they are in perfect contact.
At
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
during the penetration of the spindle into the part g the expansion of this spindle is caused by the wedge e resting in the bottom of the hole and engaging between the wedge d and half a2 of the spindle.
The different parts of the brooch or parts can be covered with glue if desired.
For fixing the crosspieces to the door jamb, shown in Fig. 6, the pins a are first fixed to the cross bars f and these cross bars are then fixed to the post g.
It will be understood that the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiment described and shown.
Summary.
In summary, the invention relates to:
1. An expandable cylindrical pin for assembling jammers, formed of two semicylindrical halves in the mating faces of which are cut two matching grooves forming an axial hole in which are engaged by the two ends two cooperating expansion wedges.
2. A pin according to 1, in which both corners are the length of the pin or approximately the length of the pin.
3. A pin, according to 1 and 2, in which the axial hole is square or approximately square and the corners of rectangular profile engaging in the grooves by their narrow side.
