Les gaz chauds mélangés à la matière brute sont injectés dans le sécheur broyeur par la tuyauterie 25,tangêntiellement au rotor de broyage . Ilssont maintenus à la périphérie de cette roue, contre les blindages 3, par la centrifuga- tion et décrivent un tour presque complet au cours du- quel s'effectue le broyage ; sont ensuite rejetés par la centrifugation dans le sélecteur 26 qu'ils tra- versent ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Drying and grinding apparatus.
The subject of the invention is a drying and grinding apparatus of the type comprising a grinding rotor housed in a casing and remarkable in particular in that the casing is provided with a tangential orifice intended for the introduction of the hot gases which are used for drying. and wet material which is thus automatically supplied between the caster and the rotor without loss of load and without the central part of this coil being brought to high temperature by the hot gases.
According to another characteristic, leiotor is constituted by one or more keyed discs on the same drive shaft and interconnected towards their peri-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
artery by axes parallel to the drive shaft on which are mounted insane crushing hammers.
Other characteristics will result from the description which follows.
In the attached drawing, given only by way of example:
Fig. 1 is a transverse vertical section taken along line 1-1 of FIG. 2 of an apparatus according to the invention; fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section along the line 2-2 of FIG. 1; FIG. 3 is a detail elevational view of the assembly of the disks and of the grinding hammers of the apparatus shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, and fig. 4 is a partial development of the outer surface of the rotor of said apparatus. according to the exemplary embodiment shown, the drying and grinding apparatus comprises a cylindrical-shaped drying and spraying chamber 1, surrounded by a casing 2.
The interior of this casing 2 comprises a shielding 3 consisting of bars 4 which are wide and very thick, arranged horizontally side by side against bearing ribs 5 formed in the body of the casing and held against these ribs 5 by cables 6. These cables 6 are hung at 7 directly on the casing 2 by one of their ends, while their other end 8 rests on the casing 2 by means of springs 9, the tension of which is adjustable by means of a nut 10. screwed onto a threaded part 11 forming the end of the cable -

grinding 1 and is mounted journalled in two bearings 13 integral with the housing 2.
On this shaft 12 are keyed by means of parts 14 several discs 15.
These discs are also assembled towards their periphery by two series of axes 16 and 17 arranged parallel to the shaft 12 on two concentric circumferences 18 and 19.
On these shafts 16 and 17 and between the discs are mounted insane crushing hammers 20. These hammers 20 (see figs. 3 and 4) comprise a body 21 and a hooking shank 22. The body 21 of these hammers in the form of a rectangular parallelepiped, the two faces 23 and 24 of which are concave. These hammers are arranged staggered on the axes 16 and 17 of the circles 18 and 19 as clearly indicated in FIG. 4.
A pipe 25 is connected to the housing 2 for feeding into the grinding chamber 1 the wet raw material and the hot gases, previously mixed by any means. This pipe 25 ends in this chamber 1 between the hammers 20 and the shielding 3 substantially tangentially to the periphery of the rotor.
At the outlet of the drying and grinding zone is also connected to the housing 2 a selector 26, of any known type, responsible for classifying the ground product. The lower part 27 of this selector communicates with the chamber 1 via a passage 28 for lowering the rejects separated by the selector, located substantially above the zone for introducing the raw material into the chamber 1. The selector 26 further comprises at its upper part a pipe 29 for evacuating the mixture consisting of the gases and the fine material, connected,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
on a fan 30 which delivers this mixture to the point of storage or use '
The operation is as follows: The grinding rotor consisting of the shaft 12, the discs 15, the hammers 20, etc., rotates in the direction of the arrow.
The hot gases mixed with the raw material are injected into the grinding dryer through the pipe 25, tangentially to the grinding rotor. They are held at the periphery of this wheel, against the shields 3, by centrifugation and describe an almost complete revolution during which the grinding takes place; are then rejected by centrifugation in the selector 26 which they pass through;
In this selector 26, the excessively large grains are separated from the gases and fall through the passage 28 into the zone for introducing the raw material. The gas flow which escapes from the rotor rejects them towards the lower end of the descent 25 where they are taken up by the hot gases and reintroduced into the mill.
The rather fine material and the now cooled gases escape from the selector 26 through the pipe 29 to go to the fan 30 which delivers them to the point of storage or use.
The drying is carried out by the path taken by the material mixed with the hot gases, in the descent 25, inside the casing 2, in the selector 26, and above all by the intimate mixing and the violent stirring which are carried out. by the hammers 20 rotating at very high speed in the housing 2.
The grinding is carried out by these same hammers which support
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
subject to very many impacts against the shields 3 and against themselves because of their high speed of rotation.
The hot gases being injected tangentially to the grinding rotor and held by centrifugation against the shields 3 while they flow into the housing 2, the result is that the shaft 12 remains far from the hot zone, and the bearings 13 remain at a suitable temperature despite the use of very hot gases. Ceoi constitutes an advantage for the drying.
The tangential injection carried out along the direction of rotation of the rotor also has the advantage of easily penetrating the hot gases and the material into the grinding zone, without increased pressure drops for the gases.
The staggered arrangement of the hammers 20 increases the impact of the material against the armor and hammers, and the biconcave shape of these hammers prevents to some extent the lateral flow of the material between the hammers. These two arrangements have the result of increasing the grinding power. For each hammer, the front concavity, depending on the direction of rotation, is the only one useful for grinding. The hammer is however biconoave which allows at a certain stage of wear (see hammer 31 fig. 3) to turn it over so as to prolong its use: the front face then becomes the rear face and vice versa.
The distance separating the two concentric circles 18 and 19 along which the axes 16 and 17 of the hammers are arranged is equal to the length that the hammers can lose through wear without reducing the flow rate of the device. When, after a certain period of work, the hammers have been reduced by this length by wear, one rejects those, 31, whose axes are placed along the circle 18 and one replaces them n
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
by partially worn hammers, the axes of which are arranged along the circle 19. Finally, new hammers are placed to replace the latter. This arrangement offers the advantage of doubling the duration of the hammers for a slight increase in the weight thereof.
The shape of the bars 1 of the shielding 3 and their mounting against the ribs 5 using the cables 6 offer the advantage of being able to turn them over when their internal face is deeply attacked by wear. The outer face of the bars then comes inside and the gap between the shields and the ends of the hammers is reduced to the suitable width which ensures the bars 4 a service life equal to that which they have already performed.
Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment shown and described, which was chosen only by way of example.
