Improvements to bicycles, @
The present invention relates to bicycles, mopeds, and other similar propulsion devices, and its aim is to prevent the cyclist from shocks due to unevenness of the ground, as well as the consequent reactions of the steering (handlebars).
According to the invention, this object is achieved by causing the axis of the steering wheel (the front wheel) to be supported no longer directly by the end of the front fork, but by the end of an arm carried to pivot by the end of the front fork, while the other end of this arm is biased by a strong spring which tends to shift the axis of the wheel downward. In this way, the axis of the front wheel can describe a certain arc of a circle around the end of the front fork, so that when passing over a projection for example, the front wheel moves relative to the fork. before which remains at the same level.
The invention can be applied to most bicycles

existing, without changing them, and at a very low cost, all without harming the overall aesthetics.
Two exemplary embodiments of the object of the invention are shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which: fig.l is a front view of the front wheel of a bicycle equipped with the mechanism according to invention (first form), fig.2 is a plan view of one of the oscillating arms, fig.3 is a front view, on a larger scale, of the end of the front fork, fig.4 is a sectional view according to AB of fig.3, fig.5 est'une axial section showing the assembly of a swinging arm according to the second embodiment and fig.6 is the view of this arm according to the second form.
In fig.l to 4, 1 designates the lower end of the front fork of a bicycle and you, and 2 the front wheel. each of the arms of this fork ends in a round flat part 3 whose internal face, in the example, is provided with a circular notch 4 forming a half-cup of a ball bearing 5. The other half-cup of this bearing is formed on the face of the central part, also rounded 6, of a lever arm 7. The two faces of this central part 6 have the same circular groove 6 'so that this lever 7 is caught between two bearings ball 5-6 ', the second of which has its second bearing half-cup made in a plate 8.
The plate 8 is rigidly connected to the fork by bolts 9-10-11-12, two of which, 10 and 11, are located on either side and at a short distance from the longitudinal axis of the fork arm. The tab 3, the central part 6 and the plate 8 are pierced with a hole for housing the pivot axis 13 of the arm 7. The two arms 7 thus pivotally mounted and with ball bearings each end, towards the rear of the machine, through the housing

tuel 14 for the axis or hub of the front wheel, so that this wheel is no longer rigidly connected to the front fork, but can on the contrary pivot around the axis 13.
At the front, the two arms 7, 'have a hooking hole lb for a strong spring 16, the other end of which is attached, with or without a tensioner, to a clamp 17 tightened on the arm of the fork or to a pivot welded to the fork. A small spring 18, attached on the one hand to the hole 19 of the arm 7, and to a clamp 20 tightened on the fork arm, acts in the opposite direction to the spring 16, but is much weaker than the latter, its role is secondary for the operation of the device.
When the front wheel passes over a protrusion A from the ground, (fig.l) the shock produces, instead of reacting on the frame of the bicycle (and the handlebars) as is the case where the hub of the front wheel is directly carried by the front fork, determines a pivoting of the wheel and the arm 7 around the axis 13, the wheel taking the dotted position of fig.l. In other words, the axis of the wheel necessarily moves upwards, as in all bicycles, but the end of the front fork remains at the same height. Thanks to the spring 16, the wheel automatically returns to its normal position after the shock has been absorbed, without reaction to the handlebars.
It goes without saying that the spring 16 must be calculated and adjusted according to the weight of the user, so that in normal operation, on level ground, the axis of the front wheel is always lower than the axis 13 , and behind it.
It will be understood that the two arms 7 can be located on the outer faces of the legs 3, or one on an inner face and the other on the outer face of the respective legs 3.
In 1 a variant of s f i g. 5 and 6, each arm 7 is integral with its enlarged central part 6, of the pivot 13 '. Each arm of the fork is attached, by welding, a small sleeve 21 traversed by the axis 15 '. both sides of the sleeve form a raceway for sets of balls 22-25, the others

half-paths being formed, one in the face of part 6, and the other in the face of the washer 24 threaded onto the pivot 13 '. The latter ends with a threaded part onto which the nut 25 is screwed, with the interposition of a washer 26. The operation is identical to that of the previous example.
