Cet arbre principal commande
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"SPECIAL MILL SUPPORT FOR MILLING MACHINE."
The present patent relates to a special cutter holder for a milling machine by means of a helical cutter (hob) or hob, multiple wedge grooves in shafts, or gear teeth and the like. The support envisaged in accordance with the present invention comprises the actual support disposed on the carriage, sliding on the bed of the milling machine similar to other machines of the kind.
On this support is held laterally by means of slides and tightening bolts an interchangeable plate or sector, the two faces of which form an angle determined by the inclination of the thread of the hob machine used, and fixed or fixed by means of screws. with an articulated arm on the main control shaft. On this plate or sector is fixed by means of bolts a tool holder in which rotates, a spindle on which is fixed on the one hand the mother cutter and on the other hand at its end, the helical pinion moved by another helical gear driven by the main shaft.
This main shaft controls
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in synchronism the device for advancing the carriage and the rotation of the niece to be machined supported in a shell forming part of the support proper, integral with the carriage.
The tool, in this case the mother bur, is gleamed in depth by means of a handwheel controlling the angular displacement of the plate or sector around the main drive shaft.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended drawings show:
Fig. I a cross section in the bed of a milling machine showing the special support in elevation.
Fig.2 a partial view in nlan of fig.I, showing the special support envisaged.
With reference to the above figs, the special milling cutter support consists of a support 2 extending transversely on the carriage 1 of a milling machine sliding on the bed 3 of said machine which is similar to 2. other machines of the kind with regard to the organs completing its equipment.
On this support 2 is mounted an interchangeable plate or sector 4, the two faces 5 and 6 of which form an angle determined by the inclination of the thread of the thread or tool 7. The plate or sector 4 will vary and may be replaced by another plate or sector according to the characteristics of the tool or cutter such as?, used.
The plate or sector 4 is fixed by means of bolts 8, to the arm 9 articulated on the main control shaft 10 and is held by its face 5 against the corresponding face of the support 2 by means of the slides 11 and 12, fixed. by the handle screws 13 and 14 respectively.
On the -laque or sector 4 is mounted the tool holder 15 by means of bolts 16 engaged in the slides or slots 17 of the tool box 15. In this norte tool 15 turns on ball bearings the spindle 18 on which is fixed the milling or working tool 7 and at one of its ends, the helical-onion 20 engaged with another helical gear 21 itself driven by the main shaft 10.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The shaft 10 synchronously controls the mechanism rotating the workpiece 19, such as a shaft in which longitudinal teeth have to be cut, the device for advancing the carriage 1 along the workpiece 19 and the milling cutter or working tool 7. The workpiece 19 is supported in a shell or nozzle 22 integral with the carriage 1. The tool or milling cutter 7 is put in depth by means of the flywheel 23 controlling the pinion 24 meshing the teeth 25 cut on the small face of the plate or sector 4 which thus pivots with its tool holder 15, around the control shaft 10.
So that there is never any play between the pinions 20 and 21, it will suffice to loosen the bolts such as 16 and lower the tool holder 15 until the meshing between 20 and 21 is perfect, then tighten bolts 16 after adjustment:
It is always possible to adjust the pinions such as 20 and 21 so that there is never any play between them so that the drive is left in order to avoid vibrations from the cutting of the tool. strawberry 7 when it traps from one tooth to another.
It will be noted that maintaining the workpiece 19 in the shell 22 which is located directly below the tool 7 prevents any bending of this workpiece 19 regardless of its length.
From the above, it follows that a higher cutting speed, a greater advancement of the tool along the workpiece, and consequently a higher production can be obtained.
Depending on the work to be done, therefore, only the pinion 20, the tool 7, and the plate or sector 4 will have to be changed, depending on the inclination of the thread of the helical milling cutter or tool 7.
The accompanying drawings are shown by way of example of an embodiment of the object of the invention and are in no way limiting in the forms or construction methods which it is easy to conceive.
