-tée- de commande , que la position des encoches du dis- que par rapport à l'aiguille n'est plus exacte ;

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Further training in knotters for agricultural machinery *
The present invention relates to knotters used in certain agricultural machines, such as baler harvesters, binders, etc. It is intended to provide a method of mounting the essential parts of these knotters allowing easy adjustment of the position of the disc serving to retain the rope or twine, when the latter is brought by the needle into the position. knotting tion.
As is well known, in knotters of this kind: comprising a notched disc serving to retain the rope or string between its two plates, .disc which is mounted on an axis the rotation of which is controlled parme toothed wheel engaged with a control screw or the like, it often happens especially in the event of wear of the teeth of the wheel.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
-mount- of control, that the position of the notches of the disc with respect to the needle is no longer exact;
In this case, a sectioning of the cord or twine generally occurs and consequently a malfunction * S. one wants to adjust the position of the disc in relation to the needle, one is reduced to moving the disc in relation to its control toothed wheel which is generally possible only by pivoting the axis which carries 1 disc in the toothed wheel so as to fix it in a new position by means of a pin caught between the teeth of the toothed wheel. It follows that the adjustment is far from being precise and generally comprises an excessively large value corresponding to the distance between two teeth of the toothed wheel, the fixing pin being able to be accommodated only between these. teeth.
In accordance with the current invention, in order to avoid this drawback and to make the adjustment of the position of the disc retaining the rope or string as precise as possible, the axis carrying the disc is provided at its end housed in the control toothed wheel, with a conical part having a large number of grooves and projections engaging a corresponding toothing formed in the conical orifice of the toothed wheel.
Under these conditions, the position of the disc relative to the toothed wheel can be varied to any desired extent.For this purpose, it suffices to disengage the toothed wheel from the cone on which it is wedged and to operate the disc and consequently its support axis, a rotation whose value is determined by the minimum distance separating two of the grooves made in the cone.
The attached drawing shows, as an example

an embodiment of the invention in its application to a knotter of a known system
Figure i is a side elevational view of the neueur device.
Figure 2 is a separate view on a larger scale showing a section taken through the line A.B. in Figure 1 of the retaining disc, its support pin and the drive gear
FIG. 3 is a front elevational view of the toothed wheel showing the grooves and protrusions with which it is provided in its central opening to enable it to be wedged on the conical part of the control shaft of the retaining disc. rope or string
The knotter, shown by way of example in FIG. 1, is an ordinary knotter comprising a frame 1 forming a support in which passes the axis µ carrying the disc 4 for retaining the rope or string disc which, as shown in Figure 2, is formed of two plates .2 and fixed by a central core 2 on the axis 3.
The discs and form, as usual, notches 8 which must correspond during the rotation of the disc to the end of the needle bringing the rope or string. In the example chosen, the axis, and consequently the device for retaining the rope or twine, receives its movement by means of a toothed wheel 9 engaged with a worm 10 rotated by a cone pinion 11 receiving its movement from an appropriate control sector.
It is easy to see by examining FIG. I that if the toothed wheel 2 is fixed on the axle, by
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
For example, using a pin 12, in order to adjust the position of the disc ±, and consequently of the notches 8 in relation to the knotter needle, one can only move the shaft of the toothed wheel .2 by a value corresponding to the distance existing between two teeth of wheel 9, given that it is only between these teeth that the holes can be made, allowing passage to the pin or spindle 12th Similar adjustment not allowing '' bring the notch $ always exactly in the desired position, it is essential for the proper functioning of the knotter,
ensure a more precise adjustment of the position which the disc ± can occupy with respect to the toothed wheel 2 ... For this purpose and as shown in figures 2 and 3, the axis 3 on which the disc ¯4 formed by trays at and 6.
is fixed invariably, ends at the side of the toothed wheel .2 by a conical part 13 in the trowel are formed grooves and protrusions 14 engaging in cutouts and corresponding grooves, formed in the hole 15 ion me in the center of the toothed wheel 1. Under these conditions, the toothed wheel .2 instead of being wedged on the axis 3 by a pin or spindle, is maintained on the latter by tightening. ge on the conical part 12 any movement of the wheel thus mounted, being made impossible by a nut taking on the threaded end 17 of the axle 3- if during operation it is necessary to modify the position of the disc ±,
it suffices to remove the retaining nut 16 and to move the toothed wheel 1 laterally so as to disengage it from the cone 13. It is then possible, by a simple rotation of the axis 3, to reengage the projections 14 in the corresponding grooves made in the hole 15 of the toothed wheel 9, the value of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
-Adjustment thus obtained still depending in this case on the width of the grooves and projections 14 which cooperate on the axis 1 with the toothed wheel 9.
Since the grooves 14 and the corresponding projections can be of as small a size as desired, it is obvious that one can, with this device, obtain a particularly precise adjustment of the position of the disc. rope or twine.
