<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The Waste Combustion Process "
In known stoves for burning waste materials, inferior fuels, etc. the material to be burned must be sieved and dried before it is introduced into the combustion furnace. The purpose of sieving is to rid the material to be burned of incombustible and fine elements such as, in particular: lignite ash; qu: mt on drying, it is necessary, because such fuels already burn with difficulty due to their composition and it is therefore necessary that they arrive in the combustion chamber as dry as possible. These operations are long and complicated.
In addition, when using residues such as sweepings, handling of the material
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to be burned outside the combustion furnace is very unhygienic and unsightly.
The object of the invention is a process for the combustion of residues and similar materials, in which the aforementioned drawbacks are avoided by ensuring that the material to be burned is transported without any prior treatment outside the furnace, as supplied. , in an oven where it is sifted, dried and burnt. In this way, the combustion of residues is simple and completely hygienic.
Installations have already been proposed in which pre-drying takes place in the oven itself.
However, these installations are very imperfect, because the material to be burned is collected in relatively high piles, so that it is only sufficiently dried at the surface. In addition, in known installations of this type, the material to be burned is only heated by radiant heat without being bathed directly by the hot gases.
According to the invention, intense drying of the material to be burned is obtained by ensuring that this material is transported on an inclined plane, distributed in a thin layer on this plane and then carried to the combustion chamber. the material to be burned is obtained by means of the fumes which escape from the hearth which is located below the lower end of the inclined plane, fumes which completely sweep the layer of material to be burned or which are partly passed through through this layer. In this way, the material to be burned, spread out in a thin layer and continuously disintegrated by its movement, is dried by the A
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
hot gases which lick it very close to its upper part or which pass through it.
According to the invention, the inclined plane is mounted between the combustion chamber and the smoke outlet so that the smoke is forced to lick the material to be burned by going to their point of exit by their natural path. The different parts of the furnace being thus arranged, the material to be burnt is moved preferably on the inclined plane towards the combustion chamber in the direction opposite to that of the introduction.
According to the invention, the material to be burned is mechanically fed onto the inclined plane serving for drying and for sieving, the introduction member being constructed in the form of a pushing member acting as a piston. The material deposited on the inclined plane is immediately distributed in a thin layer. Depending on the nature of the material to be burned, the load can be increased or reduced by adjusting, on the one hand, the operation of the pushing device, a damper mounted , on the other hand, in the filler opening making it possible to vary at will the quantity of material to be burned which enters.
The inclined plane over which the material to be burned passes is preferably constructed as a stepped grate through which the fine incombustible elements of the charge fall into a collector after being sterilized by the hot gases. In order to continue transporting the material to be burnt on the grate towards the hearth, the stepped grate is constructed, according to the invention, in such a way that there are registers between the different steps sweeping the steps over their entire width. In this way, the material to be burned is continuously turned over and exposed to drying gases in all its parts; sifting
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
is also significantly activated by the turning of the material to be burned.
The registers of the different degrees are preferably positively connected to each other by means of a connecting rod, so that uniform movement takes place over the entire stepped grid. The elimination of the fine elements of the load which have fallen into the collector through the grill 1c, -) is ensured, according to the invention, by means of a pushing device actuated mechanically and acting as the control device. loading. This pushing device is preferably actuated positively with the registers of the grid which is obtained, according to the invention, by means of a timer mounted between the pushing device and the registers of the grid.
To allow cleaning and scrubbing, the combustion grate, on which the actual combustion takes place, is mounted in a rolling or sliding manner in a known manner.
The fumes are evacuated in a known manner through an ashtray and their heat is used for some purpose, for example for the production of steam. The steam itself can be used to drive the automatic mechanical devices of the oven.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing:
The figure is a vertical section of the oven.
At the lower end of the lowering chimney 1 of the furnace is the mechanically controlled pushing device 2, the pushing movement of which is directed towards the opening 3. The operation of the pushing device can be adjusted by means of the 'drive member 4. The opening / opening3 can be more or less closed by means of the register 5,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
which ensures a new adjustment of the quantity of material introduced. Inside the oven, below the opening 3, is mounted the stepped grid 7, which is constituted by fixed individual stages formed by grid bars. The registers can be moved between the steps
9 which are interconnected by a connecting rod 10.
The movement of the connecting rod 10 is determined by the circular arc paths of its ends around the fixed supports 11 and 12.
Below the stepped grid is the collector 13 in the lower part of which is mounted the pushing device 14 with mechanical control. The movement of this pushing device is directed towards the opening 27. The pushing device 14 and the gate registers 9 or their connecting rod 10 are positively connected to each other by a linkage 15.
With each movement of the pushing device 14, the connecting rod 15 drives the crank 8 which rotates around the shaft 11; this has the effect of moving the connecting rod 10 of the registers
9.
At the lower end of the stepped grille
7 follows the inclined plane 16 which opens into the combustion chamber 17. The combustion chamber 17 comprises a combustion grate 18 mounted on rollers 19 allowing it to be taken out of the oven. Below the grid 18 is the ashtray 20 which contains the stripping device 21 and the closing flap 22.
At the upper end of the stepped grille
7 follows the ashtray 23 comprising the partition 28 and connected by an adjustable opening 24 to the discharge channel 25.
A communication channel 26 may be provided between the combustion chamber 17 and the manifold 13.
The operation of the installation is as follows:
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The residues are thrown into the hopper 1 without prior treatment, as they arrive. The pushing device 2, the rate of which is adjusted according to the nature of the material to be burned, pushes back at regular intervals the lower part of the material introduced and makes it pass through the adjustable opening 3 on the inclined plane 6 The material advances on this plane and falls on the upper steps of the grate 7. On the stepped grate 7 the direction of movement of the material to be burnt changes. The stepped grate 7 serves only to dry and sift the material distributed in a thin layer before it arrives in the combustion chamber.
The grid registers 9 discharge the material from each step onto the step immediately below.
Thanks to this arrangement, the material to be burned is forced into a determined forward movement which does not depend on the quantity of material to be burned. The material is thus always distributed in a thin layer on the. grid and is continually returned by moving registers. Fine elements such as lignite ash fall through the bars 8 of the grate into the collector 13 during the turning movement.
Items which have fallen through the grid are carried by the pushing device 14 through the opening.
27 in the ashtray 23. The parts which could have fallen through the pushing device 14 can be evacuated through the opening 30. The pushing device 14 is coupled with the grille registers 9 or their connecting rod 10 by the rod 15. and crank 8, whereby the amount of material forced at a given time through the opening 27 always corresponds to the amount falling through the grid.
] -The part of material introduced which continues to be
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
moving on the stepped grate advances on the inclined plane 16 and falls into the combustion chamber 17 on the grate 18 where it burns. The falling slag, as well as the incombustible elements, if any, collect in the collector 20 from where they are extracted and discharged into wagons 31 by means of the stripping blade 21 and through the shutter 22. The slag remaining on the grid 18 is removed after exiting the grid.
The fumes coming out of the combustion chamber 17 closely lick the stepped grate 7 where they dry the material to be burned which is spread there; parts which fall through the grid being also sterilized by the hot gases, then the fumes escape through the ashtray 23 surrounding the partition 28 and exit through the adjustable opening 24 and the exhaust channel 25 which brings them to any place of use. The ashes and other elements that collect in the ashtray 23 are extracted through the opening 29.
To conduct the fumes., There may also be a communication channel 26, ee which causes part of the gas to pass under the stepped grate and cross from the bottom, up the material to be burned spread on the grate; particularly intense drying is thus obtained.
