<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"Level crossing signaling and closing device".
The present invention relates to a device for automatically closing the level crossing barrier or the like and signaling the arrival of a train, as well as opening the barrier as soon as the last one. train axle has moved an appropriate distance away from the crossing.
For this purpose, the track on which the locomotive or the train is located, had insulated rails arranged at suitable distances on either side of the level crossing, so that when an axle is above said rail, it is earthed, which closes the various circuits of the

device. The signaling device comprises a circuit intended to activate the visual or acoustic signals, the apparatus for closing and opening the barrier, and on the other hand a reduced voltage circuit intended to activate the relay relays. opening and closing of the aforesaid first air-cuit.
The present invention also provides for the possibility of automatically connecting the circuit of the signaling devices to a back-up battery, if for some reason the network no longer supplies current or if the latter falls below a limit. determined.
The installation of the present invention also comprises a device which aims to stop the motor moving the barrier when the latter has reached one of its extreme positions and, on the other hand, to stop the operation of the acoustic signals and moving visuals when the gate is fully closed so that only the stationary warning signal continues to operate while the crossing is closed.
Other characteristics of the present invention will emerge from the description of the attached drawing which represents, by way of non-limiting example, the arrangement of the different parts of the device and the circuit diagram of the latter.
As can be seen in the drawing, tracks 1 and 2 each have a length of rail 3 which is insulated from the earth as well as from the neighboring section of rail. This insulated rail 3 is connected by conductor 4 to winding 5 of a relay 6. The output of coil 5 is connected through resistor 15, conductor 8 and fuse 9 to a two-pole switch. automatic at maximum 10, the winding 11 of which is connected to the positive pole 12 of the network.
The negative blade 13 of the network is connected to earth through a second coil 11 '

Lement reread, the reinforcement of (u desoâb7.et4ylequel is connected in known manner to the uninsulated rail 16 of the track.
When an axle of the train establishes the connection between the insulated rail 3 and the non-insulated rail of the track, the relay 6 operates and attracts the armature 17, so that the two blades 18 and 18 'are brought into contact, thus so that the current admitted into the coil 20 by the conductor 19 attracts a lever
21, the pivoting of which in the direction of the arrow rotates the shaft 91 of the cylinder 22, so that the contact 23 closes the circuit of the motor 24 on the shaft of which is wedged a winch 25 which, by rotating, moves the barrier 26 in order to close the level crossing.
On the other hand, the rotation of the cylinder 22 closes, via the stud 24 ', the circuit of the lamp 25' illuminating a warning sign such as for example the word "STOP" visible at 26 '. The lights 27, placed at the opposite end of this fixed warning signal, are switched on as follows: when the first axle of the train arrives on the insulated rail, it closes the following circuit via earth:
The conductor 29, coil 30 of relay 7, conductor 30 ', the end of which is connected to the end of the aforesaid resistor 95. When under the passage of the current, the armature 31 is attracted. , it establishes contact between the plos 32, so that the current arrives through the conductor 33 at the end of a relay coil 34, the other end of which is read again by the conductor 35 at the negative pole of the network. '
As a result of this passage of the current, the armature 36 is drawn in such a way as to establish communication between the pads 37 and 37 'and 38 and 38', so that the circuit of the lamp or lamps 27 of the signal 26 , as well as that of the siren 39,
are
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
closed. This same relay 34 at the same time closes the circuit making it possible to actuate the man's arm 40 carrying a lamp 41 and whose movements are intended to draw attention to the approach of the train.
Said man arm 40 is actuated as follows: When no axle is on insulated rail 28, the metric current supplied by conductor 42 to stud 45 passes through contact 44 of cylinder 22 located at. this moment in the; position shown in the drawing / so as to be brought back by stud 43 and conduit 46 to terminal 37. As soon as the rail 28 is earthed by the passage of an axle and the frame 36 is raised, the current passes through this armature to pad 37 'and from there through conductor 47 to lamps 41 and 27, and to siren 39, as well as through conductor 48 to pad 49 and to pad 50.
311, given that at this moment the pad 50 is placed in communication with the pad 52 by a conductive part 51, this current is sent to the coil of the electromagnet which attracts the upper end 54 of the arm of man 40, This end 54 acting as the armature of the electro 53. The angular displacement of the man arm 40, the axis 55 of which is rigidly connected to the pivoting center of a fork 56, obliges this last to oscillate simultaneously with the arm 40.
When the end 54 has been attracted by the electromagnet 53, the side 57 of the fork 56, after a short empty journey, acts on a stop 58 of a cross member 59, which are rigidly connected to the parts. conductors 51 and 60 so as to move the latter to the right of the drawing.
It follows that the contact between 50 and 52 is cut and at the same time the part 60 establishes a contact between the pad 49 and the pad 61, through which the current is sent by the conductor 62 in the winding of J electromagnet 63. the current in the coil 53 being cut off, so that said arm 40 re-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
first comes by its own weight in its vertical position and being attracted by the solenoid 63, the lamp 41 moves to the right of the drawing.
Given that each oscillation of the balance 40 is accompanied by the successive closing and opening of the circuits of the electromagnets 53 and 63, the said balance 40 will continue its movement until the moment of complete closing of the barrier 26. at which moment the cylinder 22, having rotated by a certain amount the pad 44, will no longer be in contact with the terminals 43 and 45, As soon as this contact is made between the lamp 41 of the man's arm 40 and the lamp 27 s' will turn off and the siren 39 and the man's arm 40 will stop, the lamp 25 igniting at this moment by the contact between the part 24 with the pads 64 and 65.
As follows from the present invention, the aforementioned warning devices so .. are kept in operation until the moment of the complete closing of the barrier.
To this end, the device comprises a movable stop 66 forming a nut on a worm 67 rigidly connected with a bevel gear 68 in engagement with a bevel gear 69 wedged on the shaft 70 of the winch 29. It follows that when by Following the rotation of the winch, said movable stop 66 arrives around, its limit switch to the right of the drawing, it moves a lever 71 so that the part 72 is detached from the pads 73 and 74, from the conductors 75 and 76 so that the course of the studs 38 and 38 'is cut and the frame 36 returns to its position shown in the drawing.
Thanks to this opening of the circuit, the circuit of the pads 37 and 37 'is cut so that the man's arm 40, the lamp 27 and the siren 39 no longer function. Simultaneously with the movement of the part 73, the closing part 77 also detaches from the pads of the conductors 78 and 79 so that the current is cut off in the motor 24 and the barrier 26 is cut off.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
rete in its position of closing the passage.
When the first axle of the train, after having crossed the level crossing, arrives on the insulating rail 79, the current passes through the coil of the electromagnet 80, so as to detach the armature 81 from the pads 88 and 82 ', so that' the current is cut in the winding dE) the electromagnet 20 and the lever 21 falling by its weight, turns the cylinder 22 in the opposite direction, so that the stud 23 ' sets up a circuit in the opposite direction in the motor} which, also turning in the opposite direction, will activate the hole 25 so as to cause the opening of the barrier 26.
Once the barrier is opened, the stopper 66, arriving in its position shown in the drawing, will move the connection piece 84, so that the motor 24 will be stopped and the lamp 25 will also be turned off.
When the device of the present invention is applied to the assembly of two tracks, for example, the switching on of the warning devices and the closing of the barrier also taking place in the manner described.
It should be noted that in order to allow the operation of the installation, for example for two tracks, the links 85 and 86, connected to the mobile levers 21 and 38, carry at their ends slides 87 and 88 in which can slide rollers 89 and 90 integral with the shaft 91 of the cylinder 22 so that each of these levers can be attracted by its respective electromagnet, without the other arm being moved, and vice versa each of them. they can fall back without causing the cylinder to rotate, 22.
As can be seen in the drawing, the installation of the present invention can be connected via a conductor 92 and a magnetic switch 93 to a back-up battery, so that it can be operated even. in the event of a possible network failure.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
In order to prevent the warning devices from remaining in the circuit and the barrier from remaining closed, after the passage of a train, the shaft 91 of the cylinder 22 is constantly urged by a return spring 94 towards its position. in which the circuits of these devices as well as that of the motor) are open.
It goes without saying that the present invention can be manually controlled if necessary and can be applied to more than two channels. Likewise, it can be used to open several barriers / as well as to operate alarms placed in other places than the barrier itself.
It follows from the foregoing that the present invention has the advantage of being able to keep the barrier closed in the event of crossing of trains. In fact, the warning devices and the motor actuating the barrier 26 will not be switched off until the last axle has passed over the insulated rail located furthest beyond / beyond the level crossing.
It goes without saying that when the rails are placed on iron sleepers, according to the present invention, it is possible to use known circuit breakers in which for example the mercury projected as a result of the lowering of the rail. contact.
It goes without saying that the present invention is in no way limited to these details of construction, but that it can be modified according to the requirements of the practice without thereby departing from the scope of the present invention.
