<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY FILED IN SUPPORT OF THE APPLICATION FOR A PATENT OF INVENTION Improvements to containers
This invention relates to improvements to containers and proposes to provide a container that can be used for shipping volatile and combustible liquids without harassment.
To meet this need, a container must not only have a well-sealed closure but be able, when filled with liquid, to withstand a drop against a hard surface of considerable height without starting to leak.
To this end, the improved container, object of the invention, comprises a cylindrical body, the wall of which is lined with a gripping handle, a flattened seat.

in this wall thanks to \ ine'D sse ";, 4u.'tèlle presents and which ends with an ad hoc depression, a handle mounted above this depression, and finally a nozzle and a spout mounted on said flattened seat near the handle. owing to this construction, the container is very robust and can be released into a vacuum several times from a height of more than one meter without any leaks occurring in its wall.
To ensure continuous emptying without gurgling, the pouring nozzle of the container is, according to the invention, inclined in the direction of the flow of its contents when poured, and a tubular vent opening directly into the opening of the container. bottom of this pouring nozzle commuai - that with the interior of said container at a location adjacent to this nozzle, while being directed rearwardly from it; the assembly to be adopted preferably for this tubular vent consists in fitting it dansune ad hoc opening of a baffle disposed in the internal mouth of the nozzle.
A closure constituted by a screw cap is provided for the pouring nozzle; against this cap is applied a locking bar, the flat face of which is fixed against the corresponding flat face of said cap; by the-

FIG. 14 is a top plan of a variant of the container.
Fig. 15 is a fragmentary section showing the pouring nozzle and its assembly.
FIG. 16 is a section similar to FIG. 15, the container being inverted upside down.
The container comprises a drum-shaped body A, the cylindrical wall B of which is swelled at its top to give rise to a bump 9 and a projection 10 intended to receive a pouring nozzle 11. At the base of this nozzle is mounted a baffle 12 carrying ur: tube 13 forming a vent (fig. 2,4 and 5).
The projection 10 also serves as a base for a spout 14.
The container is surmounted by a transverse handle 15 placed normally at its top when it rests in its non-pouring position, as shown in Figure 1.
On one side of the bottom of the park B is arranged a lo foot enclosing a weight 17; the position of this foot is studied (see figure 1) to prevent the container from turning except in the direction corresponding to the pouring. This foot 16 also serves as a grip when the liquid contained therein is poured out of the receptacle.
The pouring nozzle 11 is fitted with a threaded cap 18 surmounted by a locking bar 19, the central part of which is preferably welded against the upper face of said cap 18 and of which each of the projecting wings

20, 20 is pierced at 21 and provided with a pendant lug 22 which bears exactly against the outer wall of the cap 18 so as to better hold in place the locking bar 19 which cannot thus be twisted and disengaged from said cap. .
The role of the baffle 12 and the vent 13 is to ensure that the liquid is poured out of the container as a regular flow. In fact, the vent 13 brings air to the space located at the top of the container during the pouring and thus prevents any gurgling.
The variant of the container shown in FIG. 9 also comprises a body A reminiscent of a drum but whose peripheral wall 25 has a flattened bottom 26 near which is disposed a molded rinser 27 shaped at 28 to constitute a gripping handle. The pouring nozzle 29 is closed by a threaded cap 30. A similar threaded cap 31 is mounted on the outer end of the vent 32, the inner end of which is furnished with a disc 51 pierced in its center and with stops. 52.
According to the construction shown in Figures 10, 11 and 12, the container has a folding handle 34- accommodating in a double groove 35 and in a depression 36 forming a recess when folded. In this cup-shaped recess 36 is disposed the threaded annular seat 37 of the pouring nozzle, provided with a threaded closing cap 38 surmounted by the locking bar 20 designed to be at the desired moment blocked against the handle 34 by a metal wire 50 and a guaranteed lead or seal 39.
A telescopic pouring nozzle 40 slidably mounted in its seat 37 (see Figure 11) is normally
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
held in the retracted position by the threaded cap 38; at its internal end is fixed the baffle 12 through which the tubular vent 13 opens.
