<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Declutching device for winders" having been the subject of a patent application filed in Germany on July 31, 1925.

The present invention relates to winders, and more especially to machines in which the nuts of the spindles are driven by a friction wheel. Machines of this type are known in which the reel is carried by a rocking lever which allows it to be moved away from the friction wheel.
In accordance with the present invention, these machines are constructed such that when the thread reaches a determined tension, but below the breaking limit of the thread, the nut and the spool
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
automatically move away from the friction wheel, by the traction exerted by the wire, and the tilting lever, carrying the spool, is reversed, leaving said spool in the disengaged position.
In accordance with the present invention, this result is obtained by supporting the spool, by the lever which carries it, in a position such that the influence of the weight of the spool is zero and the wire is wound up thereon. by presenting itself at the most favorable angle, preferably at right angles, to the normal of the support.
The elimination of the influence of the weight of the spool makes it possible to maintain constant the load of the lever which carries the spindle, so that the nut moves away from the friction control wheel, before it is reached. the tension corresponding to the breakage of the thread ;. When the wire is presented for winding at a favorable angle and well horizontally, it can cause this displacement by a relatively small increase in tension, but, when the wire takes an oblique and unfavorable direction, the breaking limit can easily be outdated.
In known winders of the type in question, there is no provision for a clutch which causes the spindle to tilt in order to move said spindle or the nut away from the control wheel.
In the accompanying drawing are shown, schematically in side elevation, two embodiments of winders constructed in accordance with the present invention.
In the two figures, the left side represents a reel in full operation and the right side shows a disconnected reel.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The wire runs from a crown 2, braked by a band brake 1, loaded with a weight, to the spool 3 which turns on a spindle placed at the end of an angled lever, balanced which pivots in 7. The weight 5 presses the spindle nut against the control wheel 6. The pivot 7 of the angled lever 4 in its working position is located perpendicularly below the axis of the spool (see fig. 1 on the left), or perpendicularly above this axis (see fig. 2 on the left). , so that the continuous increase in the weight of the spool has no effect on the thread tension. The thread tension as well as the pressure required for the reel 3 to be driven by the control wheel 6. only depend on removable weights 5. The tension can be adjusted as desired by adding or removing weights.
When, by catching the thread for any reason, the thread tension suddenly increases above that which corresponds to the weights, the spool oscillates around the pivot 7 and moves away from the driving wheel 6. If the increase in tension is very strong, the lever 4 is projected so far that the counterweight 8 overrides the action of the weights 5 and the spool falls into its disengaged position shown in figs. 1 and 2 on the right.
In this position, the control members are disengaged and no tension is exerted on the wire. This arrangement easily prevents the tension of the thread from exceeding a limit which can be set at will by means of an adjustable weight, whatever the weight of the spool and the weight of the thread which is wound up therein.
