<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Electric jack for rapid lifting of" all vehicles. *
Automobiles, among the many improvements with which they have been endowed in recent years, have known, from an electrical point of view, only those which have been brought to them with a view to bursting and starting.
Until now no one had thought of using the electric energy produced by the engine and thanks to the dynamo and the accumulators for the lifting of the vehicle, no more than one had thought of building a jack ac - electrically powered for the needs of the workshop and the garage,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Besides, the current models of. The jacks are not practical: they require a great effort on the part of the person who uses them and only give the vehicles to be lifted with precarious and even dangerous stability.
The present invention relates to a jack of new characteristic, actuated by the electrical energy produced by the engine of the vehicle, if it is a vehicle on the road, or else by the current available on a vehicle. pipe, if it is the workshop, garage etc .....
In order to make the following explanations as clear as possible, the appended drawing represents, by way of example, an electric jack established according to the characteristics of the present invention.
This jack which is mounted on a base of any suitable shape a receives a receiving dynamo b receiving current through a flexible electrical connection c. On the axis of the dynamo b is wedged an endless via d which meshes with a pinion e itself meshing with a rack f, formed on one side of a vertical rod 9 at the top of which is hingedly mounted a jaw h.
The operation of the apparatus can be seen immediately by simple inspection of the figures in the drawing.
The current arriving by the dynamo b causes it to rotate and consequently the shaft d takes on a rotational movement on itself. The fine screw formed on this shaft produces the rotation of the pinion e, and the latter raises the rack f, and consequently the jaw h articulated to the upper part of the rod g.
The jack having been put in the desired position below the axis of any of the wheels of the vehicle @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the current is made to arrive in the dynamo. The jaw h lifting itself produces the lifting of the vehicle wheel near which the jack has been placed. As soon as the wheel is raised sufficiently to allow the operation to be carried out, for example the chan. ment of the banlage, the rod g is immobilized by any appropriate means in order to ensure the stability of the vehicle, a wheel of which is thus; raised above the ground.
Among the means employed to immobilize the rod g, mention may be made, first of all, of the choice of the helical toothing d so as to make the transmission of movements between the helical screw d and the pinion e irreversible.
This irreversibility being chosen in such a way that the endless chain d can drive the pinion, but the pin cannot drive the screw d.
Another means would consist in placing on the face of the rod g opposite to the rack f, a ratchet toothing in which a pawl my hand-operated could be housed. The rod g having been raised to the desired height, the pawl in question fa is operated by hand. lesson in making it penetrate one of the teeth of the ratchet.
At the end of the operation when it comes to lowering the jack, the pawl is released, after slightly lifting the rod g, and the rod g is allowed to descend by rotating the dynamo at a speed as slow * as you want.
It will be understood that without departing from the scope of the present invention, and to reduce the difficulties of securing the jack on board the vehicle, the dynamo could be placed. in a free space of the hood; the jack thus freed of its dynamo being the only mobile, the connection between a. worm gear! and the dynamo was based on any appropriate flexible
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
It is understood that as a wheel jack, the dynamo will be supplied by the means on board, either by a generator actuated by the engine, or by the accumulators themselves.
In certain cases, it is interesting, mainly in the garage, not to lift a single wheel of the vehicle, but simultaneously, either the two front wheels or the two rear wheels; this condition can easily be achieved with the apparatus which is the object of the invention, in fact, it suffices, as can be seen, to replace the jaw h by a bar mounted to pivot. on the rod g and carrying at each of its ends, a jaw similar to the jaw h.
