Device for transversely moving a motor vehicle The subject of the present patent is a device for moving a motor vehicle transversely, in particular for the purpose of driving it into the parking position or away from it. This device comprises at least one articulated arm under the vehicle, the free end of which is provided with at least one wheel, means making it possible to tilt this arm, against the return means, from a rest position. , in which the wheel is distant from the ground,
in a second position in which this arm is braced on the ground by its wheel and keeps the vehicle raised by one end, and finally motor means capable of driving said wheel in a direction corresponding to that of the desired displacement for the vehicle.
A similar device is already known controlled by a turbine driven by the exhaust gases from the engine which a deflector allows to deflect when it is desired to lift and move the vehicle: this device is of complex design, requiring some maintenance, and may present some dangers in use, especially when a very delicate parking maneuver must be carried out in an enclosed place, a garage for example.
Such maneuvers indeed require a long-term stress on the engine so that the mass of gas produced may in the long run become sufficiently large to make the atmosphere unbreathable.
Other devices consist of a small trolley comprising a vertical displacement jack generally housed in the trunk of the car making this trunk practically unusable.
The device according to the invention obviates the above drawbacks and is characterized by the fact that the means controlling the tilting of the arm include at least one toothed wheel portion centered on the articulation axis of this arm, integrally to the latter, a chain segment fixed to this wheel, engaged with its toothing by bare minus part of its links and a jack integral with the vehicle, connected to the other end of the chain by its piston rod and arranged so as to cause said tilting by traction on said chain.
The invention will be better understood by referring to the accompanying drawings showing, by way of example, in FIG. 1, a view of the rear axle of a motor car to which two devices are attached, and in FIG. 2, a detailed plan view of one of them. In the drawing, each device is formed of a base plate 1, forming a frame, fixed to the axle by flanges 2 and nuts 3.
On this plate is placed a horizontal sleeve 4 forming a bearing for a shaft 5 (which is hollow in the left device in the drawing and solid in the right one), on one end of which is wedged an arm 6 bent at its midpoint. and having a wheel 7 with a solid flange.
This arm is held in the raised position of FIG. 1 by a spring â one end of which is fixed to a tab 1a of the base 1 and the other of which is integral with a chain segment 9 engaged by its end part with a toothed wheel sector 10 wedged on the tree 5.
The other end of this shaft has a toothed wheel sec tor 11 to which is fixed a chain segment 12 engaged by its links with this sector and whose second end is secured to the rod 13 of a hydraulic cylinder 14 fixed by its cylinder, appropriately to the vehicle.
The cylinder of each of the two devices shown is likely to be supplied with pressurized fluid by a compressor C driven by a motor M1 that the driver of the vehicle to be parked can put into service by connecting it for example to the battery B.
As can easily be seen from the drawing, the jack 14 of each device acts by traction on its chain segment in a direction such that it produces, at the same time as the tilting of the corresponding arm 6, the tensioning of the chain. spring 8 associated with it.
At the end of the race, the arms 6 of the two devices have reached a sufficiently lowered position to keep the wheels of the axle shown at a distance from the ground by approximately 5 to 10 centimeters.
It is then possible to control the lateral movement of the vehicle by supplying an electric motor M, associated with the left-hand device at the bottom, the axis of which has a worm 15 engaged with a toothed wheel 16 wedged on a shaft 17 through the hollow shaft 5 mentioned above. On the shaft 17 is in fact fixed a pinion 18 connected to a toothed wheel 19, integral with the wheel 7, by an endless chain 20.
The direction of rotation of the wheel 7 can be changed by reversing the polarity of the supply voltage to the motor M2 by acting on a reversing switch I connected between the battery B and this motor.
The wheels of the devices shown are raised automatically under the action of the springs 8 by interrupting the flow of fluid into the jacks 14, by cutting off the current supply to the motor M1.
The device shown and described is easy to maintain since it only comprises parts of common use and immediate access ; it can be put into service directly from the driver's seat which should only switch the motors which drive it to the vehicle battery which can very well support this load without much damage, the load imposed by these motors being of the same order of magnitude as that carried out when the motor driving the vehicle is started. vehicle. To relieve this battery, it is of course possible to run the engine with no load and to supplement the action of the battery by the current released by the generator.
As shown in the drawing, the parts constituting the device are grouped together at a sufficient distance from the ground so as not to run any risk of damage even on roads in poor condition and with particularly rugged transverse profile.
Although in the example shown, the device has been adapted to the rear axle of the vehicle, it is obvious that it could just as easily be mounted on the front part of this vehicle, for example slightly in front or in front. rear of the front axle; in this case, it will be fixed directly to the floor by suitable means.
In an alternative embodiment, it would be possible to provide a vehicle with a single device placed at an equal distance from the two driving wheels of this vehicle, thus increasing the maneuverability, it being understood that the jack as well as the other elements which compose it would then present a much larger dimensioning.
In another variant, not shown, each of the two devices mounted on the vehicle as in FIGS. 1 and 2 could have means for driving their wheel so as in particular to allow a vehicle to be parked even on wheels with a very steep lateral gradient.
