<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>
<EMI ID=9.1>
<EMI ID=10.1>
<EMI ID=11.1>
<EMI ID=13.1>
<EMI ID=14.1>
<EMI ID=15.1>
<EMI ID=17.1>
<EMI ID=18.1>
<EMI ID=19.1>
<EMI ID=20.1>

<EMI ID=22.1>
<EMI ID=23.1>
<EMI ID=24.1>

constant angular tion with the scrolling mechanism via the toothed wheel 2. This axis 1 rotates in two bearings 17 and 18 forming part of the frame of the apparatus. It pcrte at its lower part helical grooves which engage in the corresponding part of the part 3
<EMI ID = 6.1>
the corresponding cone 7 fixed on the shaft 5 of the smooth or slightly ridged cylinder 4 on which the film is to be applied by suitable compressors as indicated in the main patent.
<EMI ID = 7.1>
engages in the corresponding part of the steering wheel 6, which carries at 9 a circular groove in which engages a fork forming part of an angled lever
10 articulated in 11.
A spring 13 which rests on one side on a ring 19 pinned to the axis 5 pushes the flywheel

<EMI ID = 9.1>
end is fixed on part 16 of the frame of the apparatus. A stop 15 limits in one direction the position of the spring which is permanently applied to this stop.
That said, here's how this mechanism works:
Assuming that the members occupy the positions indicated in fig.l, the axis 1 having in the apparatus a vertical position, the cone 3 descends by its own weight and is thus in contact with the cone 7.
<EMI ID = 10.1>
also. Now, the cone 3 being in contact with the cone 7, if the helical ramp is inclined in the appropriate direction, it will tighten., As a result of the inertia of the part
<EMI ID = 11.1>
The adhesion between them of these two cones, and the rod 3 can no longer move longitudinally will be driven in the rotational movement of the axis 1 and in- <EMI ID = 12.1>
against which it is applied by means of the spring 13.
The whole axis 5, cylinder 4, cone 7
<EMI ID = 13.1>
will therefore be driven by cone 3 and will follow the acceleration of the various moving parts of the device. However, the ratio of the cones 3 and 7, instead of being established so that the circumferential speed of the cylinder 4 corresponds exactly with that of the toothed rolls of the scroll bar, was chosen so that this speed circulates
<EMI ID = 14.1>
to that of toothed cylinders and as the film which is applied to cylinder 4 by compressors, as indicated in the main patent, tends to drive this cylinder at a circumferential speed
<EMI ID = 15.1>
the cone 7 will in turn become a motor to drive the cone 3 at a higher angular speed . that of axis 1, which, as a result of the action of this cone on the helical ramp, will force it to rise vertically, thus breaking contact with wheel 7. It will tend, due to its weight moreover very reduced, to come into contact with the cone 7, but will be immediately requested to rise until the establishment of a position of equilibrium maintaining an imperfect contact between the two ccnes and allowing their sliding, the friction between the two surfaces being insignificant and incapable of disturbing the uniform movement of the flywheel 6 and consequently of the cylinder 4.
Fig. 2 shows a variant in which the cones 3 and 7 are replaced by gears <EMI ID = 16.1>
by means of a device known under the name of free wheel, that is to say by means of ratchet and pawl, or even more simply of balls or rollers acting on
<EMI ID = 17.1>
rotation and independent in the other direction. Figs. 6 and
7 represent this known device.
To start up the film scrolling mechanism, which is assumed to be driven by an electric motor, the current d.e the source of electricity on it is closed and the speed is adjusted by means of a rheostat.
Fig. 3 shows a rheostat whose
<EMI ID = 18.1>
tact with each of the pads 26 of the rheostat.
On the axis 27 (fig.l and 4) is fixed a cam 12 which acts on the clutch lever 10.
If the device is in operation,
<EMI ID = 19.1>
until its boss 22 comes to rest on the stop 23, the pallet 25 breaking contact with the pads
<EMI ID = 20.1>
thread, but the cam 12 will have turned in the direction of the arrow (fig.l) and therefore the release fork acting on the flywheel 6 will move it to the left until it comes into contact with the brake 14 which will stop the rotational movement.
In its movement to the left, the
and/
<EMI ID = 21.1>
This, as well as the cylinder 4 - an assembly of which the mass is very low - can be stopped by a film in contact with this cylinder without risking damaging this film, When the device is started again, at control means, we will first re-establish the contact of the mechanical parts, as indicated in fig.l, then the starting of the electric motor by the contact of the pallet 25 on the pads 26 of the rheostat.
In fig. 5 yes represents a speaking cinematograph station, in which A is the phonographic scroller and B the cinematograph, the axis of the rheostat is
<EMI ID = 22.1>
had by means of a cardan rod and two angle gears.
In the main patent if we refer to fig.l, we see at 3 a corridor in which the film passes. It is necessary that there is in this corridor a certain pressure exerted on the film in order to create a
<EMI ID = 23.1>
this corridor and the cylinder.
Figs.8 and 9 show different embodiments to obtain a similar result.
<EMI ID = 24.1>
tooth the part in contact with the film is cylindrical.
Between this part and the cylinder (entry 2 is
<EMI ID = 25.1>
is applied by means of a compressor. This cylinder 28 is mounted in friction on its axis so as to oppose the movement of the film with a resistance which will apply the latter on the part 31 and give it a suitable tension.
In fig.9 the same result is obtained by putting in 30 a return roller and in 31 a tensioner roller.
