<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The present invention relates to a device intended in particular for crimping sinkers on a fishing line.
Ballasting a fishing line consists of pinching sinkers along the fishing line. The plucking of sinkers is currently done manually. By proceeding in this way, it is not possible to ensure perfect concentricity of the wire and of the seals, nor to obtain control of the seals on the wire. In addition, we cannot avoid lead deformation when pinching it on the wire.
The problem which the invention aims to solve is to obtain, after their fixing, lead seals having the most perfect spherical shape possible, perfect concentricity between the lead and each lead, a controlled sliding of the leads on the lead and a large regularity of execution.
To achieve these objectives, the invention provides a device for crimping elements onto a wire, as defined in the claims.
The invention is explained in detail on an exemplary embodiment described in the following with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a device according to the invention.

Figure 2 is an elevational view of the vice shown in Figure 1, in the open position.
Figure 3 shows the vice of Figure 1 in the closed position.
Figure 4 shows an enlarged view of the jaws of the vice, in the closed position.
FIG. 5 shows an enlarged view of the jaws of the vice, in the open position.
Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a support 11 on which are fixed a wire spool reel 12, two wire guide brackets 13 and 14, and a vice 15 whose base 16 is fixed on the support 11 to means of the bolts 17. The vice 15 comprises a fixed jaw 18 and a movable jaw 19 articulated around a pivot axis 20 (visible in FIGS. 2 and 3 and in FIGS. 4 and 5). The jaws 18 and 19 are provided at their upper part with hemispherical cavities denoted 21a and 21b respectively. The hemispherical cavities are dimensioned to adapt to different lead diameters.
The movable jaw 19 is integral with a control lever 22 which is fixed to it by means of the bolt 23. The lever 22 is provided at its free end with a support screw 24 adjustable by means of a counter nut 25. The support screw 24 cooperates with a limit stopper 26.
The control lever 22 passes through the fixed jaw 18 in an opening 27.
The pivot axis 20 of the movable jaw 19 is housed in notches 28 and 29 formed respectively in the fixed jaw 18 and in the movable jaw 19 (see more particularly Figures 4 and 5).
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Permanent contact between the pivot axis 20 and the inner faces of the notches 28 and 29 is ensured by springs 31 and 32 acting by pinching on the jaws 18 and 19. In FIGS. 2 to 5, the springs 31 and 32 are not not shown for the simplicity of the drawings. Their points of support are noted 33 and 34.
The spring support points are adjusted so that the line connecting the spring support points of the movable jaw passes over the horizontal plane containing the longitudinal axis of the pivot axis 20 when the jaws 18 and 19 are closed (Figure 4) and passes below said horizontal plane when the jaws 18 and 19 are open (Figure 5). This has the consequence that the springs act in the closing direction when the jaws are closed and during the first half of the opening movement of the movable jaw and that the springs act in the opening direction when the jaws are open and during the second half of the opening jaw movement. The jaws thus open automatically when an operator opens them and they close automatically when an operator closes them.
When the jaws are closed, their interior surfaces are slightly spaced from each other (see Figure 4).
To crimp lead on a wire, the device described above is used as follows. We open the vice 15 using the lever 22 and using a sharp knife whose blade is wedged in the notch of a lead, it is placed in the corresponding hemispherical cavity 21a. With the lever 22, the vise 15 is gradually closed until the lead is held between the two jaws. After withdrawal
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of the knife, the lead remains maintained by the pressure of the springs which act in the closing direction.
The wire 30 unwound from the reel placed on the reel 12 is then stretched against the two brackets 13 and 14, then it is lowered along the brackets to two stops arranged so that the wire is correctly positioned. While with one hand you keep the wire taut, with the other hand you press the support screw 24 against the stopper 26. The crimping of the lead is then finished and you can open the vice again for a new operation crimping.
The guide brackets 13 and 14 are arranged on either side of the vice 15 so that the wire 30 can be placed both in the horizontal alignment as in the vertical alignment of the pellets. The reel 12 is arranged to allow a braked unwinding of the wire 30. The lock nut 25 makes it possible to adjust the crimping force as a function of the wire and the lead chosen.
