BAGUETTE PROFILE A PINCE DE POSE ET DE TENSION D'UN
REVETEMENT SOUPLE
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
d'agrafage.
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
prolongement 7.
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>

PROFILED WAND WITH PLIERS AND TENSIONING CLIP
FLEXIBLE COATING
The invention relates to a peripheral profiled rod with a clamp for laying and tensioning a flexible, stretched, non-bonded covering covering a surface such as a wall, a floor or a ceiling.
Such a rod is already known which comprises a back in the form of a continuous strip extending at least substantially parallel to the surface to be coated, an extension of the peripheral end of the back extending at least substantially at right angles to the back to form a fixed jaw and a wing deviating from the back from its junction line with the back in the same direction as the extension, and extending towards said extension opposite the back, to the free end of the wing which forms a mobile jaw adjoining the fixed jaw.
The fixed jaw and the movable jaw thus constitute a clamp in which it is easy to insert the flexible covering such as fabric thanks to a spatula. When the edge of the covering is inserted into the pliers, the latter forms a loop, and it is necessary to subsequently cut the excess covering emerging from the pliers. When this surplus has been cut, the free end of the extension then forms a visible peripheral border around the coating.
In addition, such a strip includes a fastening strip extending from the back of the junction line.
Since such a rod is more particularly intended for the use of non-professionals, the cutting operation must be carried out with care, requires time and a relatively delicate knack to acquire. In addition, the border formed by the free end of the extension is considered unattractive and indicates the use of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
non-professional installation system.
Another problem which arises with such a known rod is that of its attachment and of its adhesion to the surface to which it is attached. Indeed, such a rod being generally intended for non-specialist and non-professional users, its attachment must be simple and rapid. However, the flexible covering laid stretched permanently stresses the rod and tends to detach it from the support surface.
The invention therefore aims to overcome these drawbacks, by proposing a peripheral profiled strip with pliers for laying and coating tension, thanks to which the finishing step following the insertion of the coating into the clamp is easy to perform, does not require to make a cut and allows to hide the free end of the extension without leaving an apparent border.
The invention also generally aims to provide such a rod which can be fixed to its support surface in a simple and rapid manner but nevertheless more solid and more reliable than in the prior art. The invention aims in particular to propose such a rod whose resistance over time is improved.
More particularly, the invention aims to propose such a rod which can be nailed or stapled to its support surface.
The invention also aims to provide such a rod which is excessively simple to use and inexpensive to manufacture, in particular which can be manufactured by extrusion of a synthetic material.
More particularly, the invention aims to propose such a rod thanks to which the laying and the tensioning of the flexible covering can be carried out with the use of a single tool such as a spatula.
Furthermore, the surfaces to be coated such as
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
walls, ceilings or floors are generally limited to their periphery by other surfaces which extend perpendicular to the surface to be coated. However, perpendicular surfaces are not always perfectly regular and straight, unlike the rod which is always regular and straight. Thus, the installation of a covering with a traditional strip often leaves visible the irregularities of the construction, in particular at the level of the surfaces perpendicular to the surface to be coated. The invention therefore also aims to propose such a rod which makes it possible to erase these irregularities from the surfaces perpendicular to the surface to be coated.
More particularly, the invention aims to propose such a rod which allows the flexible covering to be laid all along the perpendicular surface, including in the event of slight irregularity, without leaving any visible day.
To do this, the invention relates to a peripheral profiled rod with a clamp for laying and tensioning a flexible covering on a surface as mentioned above. According to the invention, it comprises means for retaining the coating extending on the side of the external face of the extension opposite the teeth of the fixed jaw, so that the edge of the coating emerging from the clamp can be folded down, wedged, and held between this extension and a surface perpendicular to the surface to be coated.
According to the invention, these retaining means comprise elastic means for wedging the extreme edge of the coating against the surface perpendicular to the surface to be coated, these elastic wedging means being able to comprise a flexible elastic band extending from the free end of the extension and folded back against the external face of the extension opposite the fixed jaw. As a variant or in combination, the retaining means
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
comprise at least one longitudinal rib or edge parallel to the clamp and forming at least one hooking tooth for the coating, and / or bonding means or an adhesive material.
Still according to the invention, the nailing portion of the fixing strip intended to receive the fixing nails or staples comprises longitudinal ribs or grooves forming at least one groove intended to receive the points of the fixing nails or staples, the heads of fixing nails or staples bearing on external end faces delimiting each groove on either side. The depth of each groove is approximately of the order of 1 mm. And the thickness of the fixing strip between the bottom of each groove and the application face is approximately of the order of 1 to 2 mm.
The strip comprises a clip for hanging the covering formed in one piece with the fixing strip to which it is connected by a joining line, and is characterized in that the width of the external nailing face of the strip of fixing extending between its free end edge and the junction line of the clamp is greater than half the total width of the application face of the fixing strip on the support surface, so that the fixing strip can be nailed or stapled in half of the fixing band carrying the clamp. According to the invention, the total width of the application face is of the order of 30 to 40 mm. And the thickness of the nailing portion of the fixing strip intended to receive the fixing nails or staples is of the order of 1.5 mm.
The cross section of the application face of the fixing strip at rest before its application is concave. And the thickness of the concavity of the application face taken between the plane tangent to this
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
application face opposite the junction line of the clamp and the end edge of the application face is greater than 0.5 mm, and is in particular of the order of 1 mm.
Still according to the invention, the end portion of the application face in the vicinity of the free end edge of the fixing strip is provided with longitudinal ribs forming teeth for hooking the rod in the support surface. The height of the longitudinal ribs increases towards the free end of the fixing strip. And the hooking teeth are inclined towards the free end of the fastening strip. The height of the highest attachment tooth is greater than 0.5 mm, and is in particular of the order of 1 mm.
The concavity of the application face results from the increasing height of the attachment teeth.
The application face of the fixing strip is provided with longitudinal adhesive retaining ridges whose height is between 0.05 and 0.5 mm.
Furthermore, the invention also relates to a method of laying and tensioning a flexible covering covering an area limited to its periphery by at least one perpendicular surface, and this thanks to a peripheral profiled rod with clamp according to the invention, in which one inserts a portion of the edge of the covering into the clamp of the strip, allowing the end edge of the covering to come out of the clamp over a sufficient length, characterized in that one inserts the end edge of the covering between the retaining means and said perpendicular surface covering the free end of the extension.
The invention also relates to a rod and to a method comprising in combination all or part of the characteristics mentioned above or below.
Other advantages and characteristics of the invention

will appear on reading the following description which refers to the appended figures in which:. Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of a strip according to a first embodiment of the invention, as used for laying and stretching a covering.
. Figure 2 is a partial perspective view of a rod according to the first embodiment of the invention.
. Figure 3 is a partial perspective view of a rod according to a second embodiment of the invention.
. Figure 4 is a partial perspective view of a rod according to a third embodiment of the invention.
The invention relates to a rod 1 with clamp 2 for laying and tensioning a flexible covering 3 such as a fabric or a synthetic covering of the same kind, stretched, not glued and covering, a surface 4 such as a wall. , a ceiling, a floor ... The strip 1 is a peripheral strip and is placed applied on the surface 4 along its entire periphery. Such a rod 1 generally consists of a profile made of extruded polyvinyl chloride.
Throughout the text, the term "height" designates the largest dimension perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the rod 1.
The strip 1 comprises a continuous flat fixing strip 5 of constant width intended to be applied to a support surface 4 of the strip 1. This support surface 4 consists of the surface 4 to be coated itself.
To form the clamp 2, the rod 1 includes a back
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
6 in the form of a continuous strip and extending at least substantially parallel to the surface 4 to be coated, an extension 7 of the peripheral end 8 of the back 6 extending at least substantially at right angles to the back 6 to form a fixed jaw 2a, and a wing 10 deviating from the back 6 from its junction line 11 with the back 6, in the same direction as the extension 7, this wing 10 extending towards said extension 7 facing the back 6, to the free end 12 of this wing 10 which forms a movable jaw 2b extending opposite the fixed jaw 2a.
The wing 10 is generally curved in the shape of an inverted S, and is elastically deformable in bending when the free end 12 is pressed, so that the movable jaw 2b can be moved and resiliently compared to the fixed jaw 2a of so as to constitute the clamp 2 gripping a portion of the covering edge 3.
According to the invention, the overall height ha of the wing 10 between its junction line 11 with the back 6 and its free end 12 forming the movable jaw 2b of the order of 15 mm. In addition, the thickness e ′ of the wing 10, that is to say the thickness of the profiled strip of polyvinyl chloride forming this wing 10, is greater than 1 mm. This thickness e ′ of the wing 10 can be between 1.15 mm and 1.45 mm, and is in particular of the order of 1, 3 mm. Furthermore, the overall height hd of the back 6 extending between the junction line 11 of the wing 10 on the back 6, and the junction line 8 of the extension 7 on the back 6 is less than 17 mm. This overall height hd can be between 13.5 mm and 16.5 mm, and is in particular of the order of 15 mm.
The wing 10 is spaced from the back 6 by a maximum distance d taken between the internal faces opposite the back 6 and the wing 10, which is between 4 and 6 mm, in particular of the order of 5 mm. This distance is maximum at the end of the base of the wing 10 from which it is
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
curved to extend towards the extension 7. At its free end 12, the wing 10 is closer to the back 6. And the minimum distance separating the wing 10 at its free end 12 from the back 6 is between 1.5 and 3.5 mm, and is in particular of the order of 3 mm.
According to the invention, the free end 37 of the movable jaw 2b distant from the back 6 is less distant from this back 6 than the free end 35 of the extension 7 remote from the back 6. And the curved portion of the wing 10 between its junction line 11 on the back 6 and the movable jaw 2b, which is the portion of the wing 10 which is furthest from the back 6, has its outer face which is less separated from the back 6 than the free end 37. This free end 37 therefore constitutes the part of the wing 10 which is furthest from the back 6 and from the surface 4. The covering 3 therefore rests on this free end 37 without coming into contact with the external face of the curved portion of wing 10.
The clamp 2 thus formed for attaching the covering 3 is formed integrally with the fixing strip 5 to which it is connected by a junction line 14.
According to the invention, the junction line 14 of the clamp 2 to the fixing strip 5 is merged with the junction line 11 of the wing 10 on the back 6, this back 6 being constituted by an extreme portion of the strip of fixing 5.
The fixing strip 5 has an external application face 15 on the support surface 4, and an external nailing face 16 extending between its free end edge 17 opposite the clamp 2 and the junction line 14 of this clamp 2 to the fixing strip 5. According to the invention, the width lc of the external nailing face 16 is greater than half the total width lt of the application face 15 so that the fixing strip 5 can
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
be nailed or stapled in half of 18a of the fastening strip 5 carrying the clamp 2. Thus, the other half 18b of the fastening strip 5 extending to the free end edge 17 of this fastening strip 5 s extends under the nails or staples 19 which allow the rod 1 to be fixed to the support surface 4.
And the application face 15 is supported on this support surface 4 between the nails or staples 19 and the free end edge 17 over more than half of its total width lt.
According to the invention, the total width It of the application face 15 is of the order of 30 to 40 mm. The fixing strip 5 thus comprises a nailing portion 20 intended to receive the fixing nails or staples 19 which extends immediately in the vicinity of the junction line 14 of the clamp 2 to the fixing strip 5. According to the invention , this nailing portion 20 has a thickness E which is of the order of 1.5 mm. This thickness of the nailing portion 20 facilitates and makes effective the nailing of the fixing strip 5, in particular when the latter is made of rigid polyvinyl chloride.
Furthermore and according to the invention, the nailing portion 20 comprises longitudinal ribs or grooves 21 extending on the external nailing face 16 and forming at least one groove 22 intended to receive the tips of the fixing nails or staples 19 . Thus, the outer outer faces 23 delimiting and extending longitudinally on either side of each groove 22 form support shoulders for the heads of the nails or staples 19. When nailing, the heads 24 of the nails or staples 19 therefore come to bear on these outer end faces 23 and, due to the strength of the nailing, are slightly embedded in these outer end faces 23, which improves the effectiveness of nailing and absorbs the shock generated by the blow of the tool nailing or
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
stapling.
This avoids the bursting of the fixing strip 5 during nailing. In the embodiments shown, the strips 1 are provided with grooves 21 of cross-section in the form of a portion of a circle hollowed out in the fixing strip 5 from its external nailing face 16. As a variant, ribs extending projecting from this external nailing face 16 could be added to form grooves 22 and the external end faces 23. When the strip 1 is intended to be fixed by nails 19a or 19b, a single groove 22 is necessary immediately in the vicinity of the junction line 14 of the clamp 2 to the fixing strip 5.
When it is desired to fix the strip 1 by staples 19c, at least two grooves 22 are provided, separated by a longitudinal outer end face, each tip of the staple 19c being engaged respectively in each groove and the head of the straddling staple the outer outer face 23 as shown in FIG. 1. A greater number of grooves 22 can also be provided as necessary, for example if one wishes to place several parallel rows of nails and / or staples 19. The nails used can be nails 19a with a flat head or nails 19b with a thread head, or the like. The cross section of the grooves 22 and the outer end faces 23 can have any suitable shape.
This cross section is nevertheless such that the thickness of the solid shoulder formed between two grooves 22 decreases from the bottom of the grooves 22 to the corresponding outer outer face 23.
According to the invention, the depth of each groove 22, that is to say the distance between the bottom of the groove and the outer end faces 23 is of the order of 1 mm. And the thickness E of the fixing strip 5 between the bottom of each groove 22 and the application face 15 is greater
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
1.5 mm, and is in particular of the order of 2 mm. Thus, the total thickness of the fixing strip 5 between the outer end faces 23 of the nailing ribs or grooves 21 and the application face 15 is greater than 2 mm, and is in particular of the order of 3 mm, and this at least for the nailing portion 20. The width of the outer end faces 23 separating two grooves can vary and influences the degree of penetration of the fixing nails or staples in these faces 23.
This width is for example between 0.1 mm and 5 mm, in particular of the order of 1
EMI11.1
mm.
The thickness of the back 6 and the wing 10 of the clamp 2 may be smaller, for example between 1 and 1.5 mm, in particular of the order of 1.3 mm. This is why in the embodiments, the back 6 has a portion whose thickness narrows from the junction line 11 of the wing 10 to the fixing strip 5 up to the extreme peripheral portion 8 of this back 6.
According to the invention, the cross section of the application face 15 of the fixing strip 5 at rest before its application on the support surface 4 is concave, so that this fixing strip 5 is flattened elastically against the surface 4 support when nailing, which improves the adhesion and efficiency of nailing. And the thickness e of the concavity of the application face 15 taken between the plane tangent to this application face 15 and facing the junction line 14 of the clamp 2 to the fixing strip 5, and the end edge 25 of the application face 15, is of the order of 1 mm.
According to the invention, the end portion 26 of the application face 15 extending in the vicinity of the free end edge 17 of the fixing strip 5 and containing the end edge 25 is provided with parallel longitudinal ribs 27 forming hooking teeth
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
29 of the rod in the support surface 4. The height perpendicular to the application face 15 of the longitudinal ribs 27 increases towards the free end edge 17 of the fastening strip 5, that is to say that the longitudinal ribs 27 closest to the end edge 25 have a height greater than the longitudinal ribs 27 furthest from this end edge 25.
In addition, the attachment teeth 28 formed by the longitudinal ribs 27 are inclined towards the free end edge 17 of the fixing strip 5 as shown in the figures. Thus, during nailing and flattening of the concave fixing strip 5, the hooking teeth 28 tend to penetrate and anchor in the support surface 4.
According to the invention, the height of the highest attachment tooth 28, that is to say of the attachment tooth 28 which constitutes the end edge 25, is greater than 0.5 mm, and is in particular of the order of 1 mm.
In the embodiments shown and according to the invention, the concavity of the application face 15 is only formed and results from the increasing height of the attachment teeth 28 formed by the ribs 27. As a variant, it could also be provided that the middle portion of the application face 15 is itself curved and slightly concave.
Furthermore, according to the invention, the application face 15 of the fastening strip 5 is provided with longitudinal grooves 29 for retaining glue, and this at least opposite the nailing portion 20. These grooves 29 extend parallel to each other and are brought close to each other by a suitable distance making it possible to arrange and retain an adhesive. The ridges 29 also have a height of between 0.05 and 0.5 mm. The streaks 29 are advantageously provided over the entire
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
portion of the application face 15 which comes into contact with the support surface 4.
Such a rod 1 according to the invention is intended to be applied to the periphery of the surface 4 which is limited by a surface 13 which extends perpendicular to the surface 4 to form a corner. This perpendicular surface 13 may consist of a surface similar to the surface 4 such as another wall, the ceiling or a floor or even be formed of the song of a plinth, a frame or a frame.
According to the invention, the rod 1 comprises means 30, 31, 32 for retaining the coating extending on the side of the external face 33 of the extension 7 which is opposite the teeth of the fixed jaw 2a, so that the extreme edge 34 of the coating emerging from the clamp 2 can be folded down, wedged and held between this extension 7 and the surface 13 perpendicular to the surface 4 to be coated.
Figures 1 and 2 shows a first embodiment of the invention in which the retaining means 30, 31, 32 have longitudinal ribs parallel to the clamp 2 and forming hooking teeth 31 of the end edge 34 of the coating 3. The attachment teeth 31 are preferably oriented towards the back 6 and towards the surface 4 to be coated to facilitate the attachment of the edge 34. According to the invention and in the embodiment shown, the ribs are formed on the outer face 33 of the extension 7 opposite the fixed jaw 2a.
According to the invention and in a second embodiment shown in FIG. 3, the retaining means 30, 31, 32 comprise elastic means 30 for wedging the extreme edge of the coating 34 against the surface 13 perpendicular to the surface 4 to be coated. These elastic wedging means 30 therefore form an elastic bead extending from the side of the external face 33 of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
extension 7. This elastic bead 30 can be crushed elastically in the direction parallel to the surface 4 to be coated to allow the insertion of the extreme edge 34 and to overcome any irregularities of the surface 13 perpendicular to the surface 4 to be coated.
According to the invention, the elastic wedging means 30 can be formed or comprise an elastic flexible band 30 extending from the free end 35 of the extension 7, and folded against the external face 33 of the extension 7 opposite the fixed jaw 2a. This elastic flexible band 30 may simply consist of an extension of the free end 35 of the extension 7 parallel to the surface 4 to be coated and opposite the clamp 2. This extension extends longitudinally over the entire length of the strip 1 and has a thickness sufficiently small so that the strip 30 thus formed can be folded down opposite and against the external face 33 of the extension 7 in an elastic manner to form the elastic means 30 for wedging.
In this case, it can be seen that this elastic flexible band 30 can be produced in one piece with the rod 1 and in the same material during the same extrusion phase. As a variant, provision may nevertheless be made for the elastic flexible strip 30 to be made of a different material with suitable elasticity properties, added after the extrusion along the free end 35 of the extension 7.
The strip 1 according to the invention is applied to the surface 4 to be coated with the flexible elastic band coming into contact with the surface 13 perpendicular to the surface 4 before the insertion of the extreme edge 34 of the coating between this elastic band 30 and this surface 13 perpendicular. If the need arises, the strip 1 can be applied so that the elastic flexible band 30 is slightly spaced from the surface 13
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
perpendicular by a distance less than the thickness of the covering 3 to facilitate the insertion of the extreme edge 34 between this elastic flexible band 30 and the perpendicular surface 13.
In any event, the extreme edge 34 of coating 3 which emerges from the clamp 2 is inserted and wedged between the curved outer face 36 of the elastic flexible band 30 and the surface 13 perpendicular to the surface 4 to be coated. In this way, the free end 35 of the extension 7 is hidden and no cutting operation is necessary during the finishing.
In the third embodiment shown in FIG. 4, the retaining means 30, 31, 32 comprise bonding means or an adhesive material 32 arranged on the external face 33 of the extension 7. Thus, the external face 33 is provided with a layer of glue or adhesive over its entire length. The glue or the adhesive 15 are chosen to have good adhesion with the corresponding flexible coating 3. Here again, as a variant, the bonding means or the adhesive material 32 can be arranged on the external face 36 of the elastic flexible strip 30 of the second embodiment shown in FIG. 3.
In a method according to the invention, the application face 15 is placed against the support surface 4 which is in this case the surface 4 to be coated, the rod 1 is nailed using nails 19 engaged in the groove 22, the as close as possible to the junction line 14 of the clamp 2 to the fixing strip 5, the heads 24 of the nails coming to bear on the outer end faces 23 and fitting slightly into these outer end faces 23. Then place a fleece 30 on the surface 4 to be coated and above the external nailing face 16.
The edge of the covering 3 is then inserted into the clamp 2 using a spatula so as to form a loop, and the extreme edge of this covering 3 is folded down by
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
above the free end of the extension 7 between the retaining means 30, 31, 32 and the peripheral surface 13 perpendicular to the surface 4 to be coated. Before applying the application face 15 against the surface 4 to be coated, the ridges 29 can be coated with an adhesive which will improve the adhesion of the fixing strip 5 to this surface. When nailing, the teeth 28 formed by the longitudinal ribs 27 are anchored in the surface 4 and the application face 15 is flattened against this surface.
In a method of laying and tensioning a flexible covering according to the invention using a strip according to the first and third embodiments, the strip 1 is applied against the surface 4 to be coated so that the ribs 31 or the glue or the adhesive material 32 are slightly spaced from the perpendicular surface 13 by a distance less than or equal to the current thickness of the extreme edge 34 of the coating 3 so as to allow its insertion between the external face 33 of the extension 7 coated with the ribs 31, bonding means or adhesive 320 and this surface 13 perpendicular. The irregularities of the perpendicular surface 13 are then erased essentially by the thickness of the extreme edge 34 of the covering 3.
In a variant not shown, the retaining means 30, 31, 32 may consist of a bead of solid elastic rubber attached to the external face 33 of the extension 7 possibly provided with ribs 31, and / or of an adhesive or an adhesive.
The means 30, 31, 32 may also consist of a sharp edge forming a retaining tooth at the end of a protuberance of the extension 7 which extends projecting relative to the external face 6 of the back 6 to l 'opposite of the fixed jaw 2a.
In addition, these different embodiments and
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
variants can be combined. For example, the continuous flexible strip 30 may comprise one or more rib (s) or edge (s) and be coated with glue or adhesive.
Furthermore, the teeth of the fixed jaw 2a and the teeth of the movable jaw 2b extend opposite one another in an inclined direction D at an angle Q with respect to the normal direction N on the back 6, this direction D s 'moving away from the opposite external face 33 of the extension away from the back 6. The angle Q is advantageously between 100 and 450, in particular of the order of 200. In this way, the insertion of the edge portion coating in the clamp 2 is facilitated, the perpendicular surface 13 does not interfere with the handling of the tool.
To insert the extreme edge 34 of the covering 3 between the retaining means 30, 31, 32 and the perpendicular surface 13, one can simply use the same spatula as that used to insert the edge portion into the clamp 2. Thus, the Finishing step is carried out almost instantaneously, without requiring a knack or cutting operation. In addition, the border formed by the end 35 of the extension 7 is masked and the irregularities of the perpendicular surface 13 are erased.
The invention is applicable to allow the non-specialized and non-professional public to place and stretch flexible stretched coverings not bonded such as wall or ceiling coverings in textile or synthetic material.
The dimensions given in the present description are given as a non-limiting indication. It is obvious that the modification of dimension would not depart from the scope of the invention.
