    1. Fixing device for decorative hollow elements, in particular in the form of beams or joists, having an open side which is placed against a plane supporting surface, consisting mainly of two portions, a male portion (5, 6) and a female portion (3, 4), any one of said portions (3, 4 or 5, 6) being fixed, before the positioning of the hollow element (1), by conventional means such as nails, screws, dowels or the like on the supporting surface (2) and the other of said portions (5, 6 or 3, 4) being mounted on the internal face of the hollow element (1) remote from the supporting surface (2) during the positioning of the hollow element (1), the two portions (3, 4 and 5, 6) producing a detachable fixing for the hollow element by mutual engagement, the device being characterised in that the female portion comprises a part (4) comprising two elastically deformable arms (4b) which may be spread apart by force and end with supporting lips (4a) and in that the male portion comprises a hollow body (5) for spreading apart the supporting lips (4a) of the arms (4b) of the part (4) and connecting the part (4) by interlocking engagement, said hollow body (5) having, on the one hand, a conical or wedge-shaped portion (5a) ending with two bulging longitudinal regions (5c) defining the base and the maximum spacing of the wall of said portion (5a) and, on the other hand, beyond the bulging longitudinal regions (5c), two symmetrical wall portions (5d) which are inclined or curved in converging manner in such a way that when the hollow element (1) is supported against the supporting surface (2), the supporting lips (4a) rest against the symmetrical wall portions (5d) and ensure, under the influence of the elastic restoring force of the arms (4d), intimate application of said hollow element (1) against said supporting surface (2).

    3. Fixing device according to claim 2, characterised in that the male portion is also composed of a plate or two tabs (6) of rectangular shape comprising orifices for the passage of nails, screws, rivets or the like.
    4. Fixing device according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the hollow body (5) and the part (4) have a profiled section obtained by folding and a substantially rectangular shape as well as narrow walls preferably composed of steel.
    5. Fixing device according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the hollow body (5) is produced integrally with the tabs (6) from a single plate of steel sheet, by mutual folding, stamping and welding of the walls in the region of the tabs (6).
    6. Fixing device according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the part (4) is produced from preshaped hardened steel sheet.
