In the drawing, for example, tie rods 18 are assumed, which act on the one hand on the wall of the vessel 1 and on the other hand on the pipe and the position of the pipe can be changed by shortening or lengthening them. Finally, a water supply 19 and an overflow 20 to ensure a certain water level are attached to the vessel 1. The openings 21 are provided to make the interior of the vessel accessible; usually they are closed by lids.
The filter works as follows: The vessel 1 is filled with water up to the overflow. The dusty air enters through the dip tube 15 in order to be evenly distributed under water through the holes made in the cone 17. The dust is precipitated while the air flows through the two layers of gravel to the bend 5 located in the middle of the cover 3 and connected to the suction line.
The purpose of the lower gravel layer is to calm the water level down, but then also to hold back the pieces of mud that are still carried along by the air after it leaves the water. The upper layer of gravel, however, serves to catch the fine water mist that is still contained in the rising air.
The floors 9 and 12 with the layers of gravel resting on them, which incidentally can also be provided in multiple numbers, are made rotatable so that the gravel can be subjected to vigorous washing when the filter operation is inactive. For this purpose, you first open the valve connected to the elbow 4, let the sludge out of the container ah and feed the upper gravel layer with pure water. If you then set the shaft 6 with the floors 9 and 12 in rotation, the gravel lying on them is effectively churned up by the fixed prongs 14 and washed off by the water. Of course, this process is extended until the gravel layers are thoroughly cleaned.
