   Die bisherigen Quarzlampen weisen den Ubelstand auf, dass im Falle eine Lampe während des Betriebes zerbricht, glühende Quarzteile herabfallen und das kochend heisse Quecksilber   ausfliesst.   Ein solcher Bruch macht sich bei Quarzbrennern,   Úe   zu   Beleuchtungs-   zwecken benutzt werden, weniger fühlbar, da solche Lampen stets mit Glasglocken versehen sind. Dagegen muss bei Quarzlampen, die für ärztliche Zwecke Verwendung finden, unter allen Umständen die Forderung erfüllt werden, dass bei einem Brennerbruch die Patienten nicht zu Schaden kommen. 



   Eine wirksame Schutzvorrichtung muss aus einem Material bestehen, welches für die ultravioletten Strahlen, auf die es bei der Anwendung von Quarzlampen zu medizinischen Zwecken ankommt, durchlässig ist, und muss ferner so angeordnet sein, dass Verletzungen von Personen durch Herabfallen glühender Quarzstücke oder Auslaufen des heissen Quecksilbers verhindert werden. Der Gegenstand der Erfindung erfüllt diese Forderung. 



   In der Zeichnung zeigt Fig. 1 eine Längsansicht und Fig. 2 einen Querschnitt des Brenners und der Schutzvorrichtung. Hienach sind a, a zwei gepresste Metallkappen, welche die   Polgefässe   des Brenners möglichst nah umschliessen und am Leuchtrohransatz halbkreisförmig ausgeschnitten sind. Sie dienen als Träger des halbzylindrischen Quarzschutzmantels b, welcher entweder aus völlig klarem Material besteht oder auch am unteren Teil c (Fig. 2) mit einer dünnen Auflage von milchweissem Quarz versehen ist, so dass die intensivste, lotrecht nach unten strahlende Lichtmenge etwas abgeblendet wird. Statt Quarz kann auch eine die ultravioletten   Strahlen mehr   oder weniger durchlassende Glasfarbe verwendet werden. Die Glasfärbung kann durch Färbung der Masse selbst, durch Überzug mit Farblack usw., erreicht werden.
