Method of preventing wood oil from coagulating when heated.

As is well known, the unpleasant property of curdling stands in the way of boiling wood oil to a perfect stand oil or varnish. The processes that recommend the addition of lime, alkali, alkali carbonate or zinc dust also do not show the desired success.

The surprising observation has now been made that the addition of selenium or sulfur, selenides or sulphides by itself or in mixtures with one another completely eliminates curdling, regardless of whether it is processed at low temperature or at temperatures considerably up to 3000C .

Also surprising is the small percentage of selenium or sulfur, which is sufficient to prevent wood oil from coagulating when heated.

The process enables the wood oil to be even more useful in the paint, varnish and linoleum industry than that which is caused in many cases by the wood oil's better properties than linseed oil and other oils. The usability is also increased by the fact that lacquers that are produced by means of the wood oil heated according to the new process. have unsurpassed water fastness and not the slightest skin formation.
