Process for the production of cellulose ester and cellulose ether compositions.

The invention relates to the production of cellulose ester and cellulose ether compositions, in particular those made from cellulose acetate.

Mixed aryl esters of phosphoric acid have already been proposed as plasticizers for such compositions; H. Esters in which a plurality of different aryl groups, for example both phenyl and cresyl groups, are attached to a single phosphoric acid radical.

According to the present invention, diphenyl monocresyl phosphate and monophenyl dicresyl phosphate are used together or in combination with one another for this purpose, and the like. between in such relative proportions that the resulting mixture in terms of its content of phenyl and cresyl and phosphoric anhydride groups corresponds to a mixture of 45 to 65% phenyl phosphate and 55 to 35% cresyl phosphate. In practice, it is advantageous to use a mixture of diphenyl monocresyl phosphate and monophenyl dicresyl phosphate in proportions which would correspond to a mixture of 55 parts of phenyl phosphate and 45 parts of cresyl phosphate.

When preparing the cellulose ester compositions according to the invention, the mixtures listed above are used in an amount of 25 to 40 percent by weight of the cellulose acetate.

The substances mentioned can also be used in conjunction with higher chlorinated derivatives of ethane and other paraffinic hydrocarbons.

The compositions according to the invention can be used for the production of thin sheets, cinematographic films, artificial threads and for all other purposes for which plasticized cellulose ester compositions are suitable.

Examples of embodiments of the invention are: a) for thin films: cellulose acetate 100 parts, diphenyl monocresyl phosphate 22 parts, mono-
