The invention relates to the simultaneous addition of a polynitrotoluene and a non-volatile, non-hygroscopic and water-insoluble ester of an organic acid and aims to produce a smokeless and muzzle-free powder. The main polynitrotoluene used is dinitrotoluene. In addition to the properties already mentioned, the esters must also have a special dissolving power for nitrocellulose and form a liquid nitrocellulose gelatinizing mixture with dinitrotoluene below 80 ° C. Have proven themselves z. B. the following compounds: dialkyl phthalate, dibutylartrate, ethyl palmitate or acetylated coconut oil, consisting of a mixture of the mono- and diacetyl compounds of the various fatty acid glycerides contained in coconut oil. The addition of dinitrotoluene to. Nitrocellulose powders are just as well known as that of phthalic acid esters. However, by adding the individual components alone, it is not possible to produce powders that burn both smokelessly and without a muzzle flash at the same time. Only the simultaneous addition of both substances leads to the desired result. The amounts to be added are up to 10,000 dinitrotoluene and up to 10,000 esters. The nitrocellulose to be used should have a nitrogen content of more than 12.9%. The usual stabilizers, Tide Diphenyiamine, can of course also be added to the powder. Embodiments

manufactured
The nitrogen content in the nitrocellulose and its amount and the proportions of the dinitrotoluene, dibutyl phthalate and diphenylamine can be changed within fairly wide limits.
kolloidiert. The production of the new powder does not require any special technology
or skill. The nitrocellulose becomes more adequate with denatured ethyl alcohol
Starch dehydrated and then with the addition of ether in a suitable mixer
colloid.
The dinitrotoluene and dibutyl phthalate are added to the ether or
directly into the mixer. As a result of the loosening; Z
effect
of these two additives, less ether and alcohol is needed than usual for
Nitrocellulose powders that do not receive such an addition must be consumed.
Diphenylamine, usually added as a stabilizer, is dissolved in the ether beforehand
on. The colloid is then made into tubular grains with one or more perforations
or pressed into other suitable shapes. The granular powder is still after that
subjected to a solvent recovery treatment before
it is dried, whatever in the air or in warm water of 60 ° C not exceeding
Temperature happens, although higher temperatures without affecting the
chemical resistance of the powder can be used.
