Abstract

294,008. Hands, H., J., and Spicers, Ltd. Aug. 27, 1927. Plastic compositions containing cellulose esters and ethers.-Diphenylmonocresyl- and monophenyldicresyl-phosphate are used as plasticizers in cellulose ester and ether compositions, particularly compositions containing cellulose acetates, in such relative proportions as would yield a mixture corresponding in respect of its content of phenyl and cresyl groups and the phosphoric anhydride group to mixtures of phenyl phosphate and cresyl phosphate containing from 45 to 65 per cent of the former to 55 to 35 per cent of the latter. Mixtures of the bodies in the proportions above indicated may be used with 25 to 40 per cent of cellulose acetate. The materials specified may be used in association with the higher chlorine derivatives of ethane and other hydrocarbons of the paraffin series, for example, heptachlorpropane. The compositions may be used in the production of thin foil, cinema film, artificial fibres and other purposes. Examples of compositions suitable for thin foil, cinema film, and silk are given.
