Abstract
In the production of plastic masses, moulding-powders, and other solid or semi-solid compositions containing cellulose esters or ethers, plasticizers or other materials are incorporated by means of media containing methylene ethylene ether. Thus the plasticizer may be dissolved in methylene ethylene ether, or a mixture of methylene ethylene ether with another solvent or non-solvent, the solution sprayed or otherwise incorporated with the cellulose derivative, and the mass worked up in the usual manner. The process may be applied in the production of plastic masses and the like from cellulose acetates of at least 56 per cent acetyl content. The products may contain in addition to the cellulose derivatives, also natural or synthetic resins. In an example, a solution comprising tricresyl phosphate, p mono-methylated isomeric xylene sulphonamides, methylene ethylene ether, benzene, and alcohol is incorporated with acetone-soluble cellulose acetate, or cellulose acetate of 58-60 per cent acetyl content and the mass moulded into sheets, plates or other articles.ALSO:In the production of plastic masses, moulding-powders, and other solid or semi-solid compositions containing cellulose esters or ethers, plasticizers or other materials are incorporated by means of media containing methylene ethylene ether.
