Cooling jacket for mercury vapor jet pumps.
Up until now, mercury vapor jet pumps have been designed with double walls to cool them and the coolant has been passed through between the two walls. Fig. 1 of the drawings shows an example of such an arrangement. g represents part of a vessel to be cooled or the like. For this purpose it is provided with double walls a and b. The cooling liquid is added at c and discharged at d.
It has been shown that when such arrangements are in operation, corrosion takes place on the walls a of the vessel to be cooled by the coolant, which over time leads to the destruction of the vessel walls and thus to unpleasant disturbances and makes it necessary to replace the entire arrangement.
To avoid these inconveniences, the coolant is guided according to the invention in such a way that direct contact between the vessel to be cooled and the coolant is avoided, and the like. between. The cooling jacket according to the invention consists of one or more self-contained vessels which are in direct contact with the walls of the rooms to be cooled.
Fig. 2 of the drawing shows an embodiment of such a cooling jacket. A double cylinder e closed at both end faces is placed around the pipe g to be cooled, in such a way that the inner cylinder wall is in as close contact as possible with the outer wall of the vessel g to be cooled. This arrangement has the great advantage that if the cooling jacket is damaged by corrosion, only the cooling jacket itself and not the rest of the system needs to be replaced.
In order to facilitate the installation of the cooling jacket, the double cylinders according to FIG. 2 can be designed as semi-cylindrical vessels which are placed on both sides of the vessel to be cooled and fastened by means of flanges. Fig. 3 shows such an arrangement in cross section. g is again the vessel to be cooled, and l are the two semi-cylindrical cooling jackets that are screwed onto vessel g by means of the flanges f. This arrangement enables the cooling system to be replaced without the system to be cooled having to be dismantled.
It is advisable to divide the cooling jacket into several independent elements,

Repair or cleaning can be removed individually during operation and, if necessary, replaced by reserve elements.
