Abstract
El proceso para concentrar una suspensión acuosa de partículas sólidas que comprenden partículas de minerales, comprende las etapas de: (i) agregar al menos un floculante polimérico orgánico a la suspensión de ese modo, donde dicho floculante polimérico orgánico es un polímero no iónico o aniónico que tiene una viscosidad intrínseca de al menos 4 dl/g, (ii) formar sólidos floculados, y (iii) dejar que los sólidos floculados decanten formando una capa de sólidos y una suspensión más concentrada, en donde una cantidad eficaz de un agente se aplica a la suspensión antes de o sustancialmente simultáneamente con el agregado del floculante polimérico orgánico y/o se agrega el floculante polimérico orgánico a la suspensión en un recipiente y el agente se aplica a la suspensión en el mismo recipiente, en donde el agente es un agente de radicales libres, en donde el agente de radicales libres produce una reducción en la tensión de deformación (fluencia) de la capa de sólidos de al menos 10% por debajo de la tensión de deformación de una capa de sólidos con un contenido de sólidos equivalente sin el agregado del agente de radicales libres, y un aumento de líquido acuoso liberado de dicha capa, y en donde el agente de radicales libres es butil hidro peróxido terciario, sulfito de sodio, bisulfito de sodio, persulfato de sodio, perborato de sodio, nitrito de sodio, o percarbonato de sodio.
