Abstract
Métodos para el desarrollo de un tratamiento en base a un bacteriófago virulento para el control de enfermedades en plantas provocadas por Xylella fastidiosa. Además provee métodos para aislar y propagar el bacteriófago virulento para X. fastidiosa en un huésped bacteriano Xanthomonas y para tratar o reducir los síntomas de la infección por X fastidiosa en una planta. Además provee métodos para aislar y propagar el bacteriófago virulento para Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri y para tratar o reducir los síntomas de la infección por Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. Citri en una planta. Reivindicación 2: El método de acuerdo a la reivindicación 1, en donde el bacteriófago es al menos un bacteriófago tipo Xfas100 o tipo Xfas300 que se selecciona del grupo que consiste de un fago Xfas100, un fago Xfas300, en donde el tipo de fago Xfas100 presenta al menos una de las siguientes características: (a) el bacteriófago tiene la capacidad de lisar dicha bacteria Xylella fastidiosa y/o Xanthomonas; (b) el bacteriófago infecta una célula por unión a un pelo tipo IV; (c) el bacteriófago comprende una cola no contráctil y un tamaño de cápside que varía en un rango entre 55 y 77 mm. de diámetro, con una morfología típica de la familia Siphoviridae; (d) el tamaño genómico del bacteriófago es aproximadamente entre 55500bp y 56200bp; y (e) el bacteriófago previene o reduce los síntomas asociados con la enfermedad de Pierce en una planta o plantas; en donde además el tipo de fago Xfas300 presenta al menos una de las siguientes características: (f) el bacteriófago tiene la capacidad de lisar dicha bacteria Xylella fastidiosa y/o Xanthomonas; (g) el bacteriófago infecta una célula por unión a un pelo tipo IV; (h) el bacteriófago comprende una morfología típica de la familia Podoviridae caracterizado por una cola no contráctil con un tamaño de cápside que varía en un rango entre 58 y 68 mm. de diámetro; (i) el tamaño genómico del bacteriófago es aproximadamente entre 43300bp y 44600bp; y (j) el bacteriófago previene o reduce los síntomas asociados con la enfermedad de Pierce en una planta o plantas.
