Abstract
Un compuesto comprende (a) 10,1 - 99,9% en peso de Ag elemental y (b) 0,1 - 89,9% en peso de ZnO, en donde la suma de (a) y (b) da 90% o más en peso del compuesto y en donde Ag elemental posee un tamaño de partícula primaria de 10 - 200 hm y/o ZnO posee un tamaño de partícula primaria de 0,1 hasta por debajo de 50 mm y/o el compuesto posee una distribución de tamaño de partícula de 0,1 - 50 mm y/o un área superficial BET de 10 - 100 m2/g. El compuesto puede obtenerse mediante los pasos de (i) mezclar una primera mezcla de al menos una sal de Ag con una segunda mezcla de al menos una sal de Zn formando de ese modo una tercera mezcla de sales de Ag y Zn, (ii) agregar la tercera mezcla a una mezcla de una fuente de carbonato, (iii) co-precipitar los carbonatos de Ag y Zn formados en el paso (ii), (iv) lavar los carbonatos de Ag y Zn, y (v) descomponer térmicamente los carbonatos de Ag y Zn. Los compuestos son útiles para impartir propiedades antimicrobianas a superficies, artículos o composiciones a granel, especialmente a sistemas de membrana para la separación de agua o gas.
