Abstract
La recuperación de agua en celdas directas de combustible líquido, particularmente celdas directas de metanol, se logra mediante la incorporación de una estructura generadora de capilaridad compuesta de material capilar, que puede consistir en un material compuesto, adyacente al cátodo. El material capilar posee una altura capilar de ascenso libre de al menos la mitad de su longitud mayor. Los materiales capilares pueden seleccionarse entre espumas, fibras tejidas, fibras atadas, fibras trenzadas y fibras no trenzadas. En una modalidad, se forman huecos o perforaciones a través del grosor de la lámina, y una capa conductora se encuentra adherida, adyacente o recubriendo al menos una superficie de material capilar. Para reciclar agua, se incorpora una segunda estructura generadora de capilaridad de material capilar adyacente al ánodo y se proporciona una vía de flujo de líquidos entre la primera y la segunda estructura generadora de capilaridad. El agua absorbida que fluye a través de la vía de flujo de líquidos se mezcla con el combustible y se introduce en la segunda estructura generadora de capilaridad adyacente al ánodo.
