Abstract

Un método para preparar una solucion antimicrobiana que contiene ácido peracético que incluye generar electrolíticamente peroxido de hidrogeno, iones peroxido, o radicales peroxido, y hacer reaccionar tales especies con un dador de acetilo para formar ácido peracético. Se provee un método de descontaminacion antimicrobiana de artículos que incluye suministrar un gas que contiene oxígeno a un cátodo de una unidad de electrolisis y formar especies peroxido, tales como iones peroxidos, radicales peroxido, o peroxido de hidrogeno, en un electrolito en el cátodo. El método incluye además hacer reaccionar las especies peroxido con un precursor de ácido peracético para formar ácido peracético y transportar el electrolito que contiene el ácido peracético a un sitio en el cual los artículos son descontaminados microbiologicamente. Se provee además un sistema para la descontaminacion antimicrobiana de objetos que incluye una unidad de electrolisis que incluye un ánodo y un cátodo: una fuente de un potencial eléctrico aplica un potencial entre el ánodo y el cátodo; una fuente de un gas que contiene oxígeno suministra oxígeno al cátodo para formar especies peroxido en el electrolito; una fuente de precursor de ácido peracético provee el precursor de ácido peracético para reaccionar con las especies peroxido para formar una solucion que incluye ácido peracético, un recipiente recibe artículos a ser descontaminados y una línea de suministro de fluido transporta la solucion que contiene ácido peracético de la unidad de electrolisis al recipiente.
