Abstract
Se elimina el emrcurio del petroleo crudo, de condensados de gas natural y de otros hidrocarburos líquidos eliminando primero el mercurio coloidal y lossolidos que contienen mercurio absorbido, y luego tratndo los hidrocarburos con un compuesto orgán ico o inorgánico que contiene al menos un átomo de azufre quereacciona con mercurio. El compuesto de azufre reacciona con el mercurio disuelto que contamina los hidrocarburos para formar particulados que contienenmercurio, los cuales se eliminan lueg o de los hidrocarburos para producir un producto purificado que tiene un contenido reducido de mercurio. Preferiblemente,el agente de tratamiento es un compuesto orgánico que contiene azufre, tal como un ditiodicarbamato o isobutileno sulfurizado.
