Abstract

Método y aparato para la formacion de un miembro metálico tubular alargado a partir de una pieza madre metálica tubular. El método comprende: i)disponer una pieza madre metálica tubular que tiene una seccion transversal generalmenteova lada dentro de una cavidad de matriz y orientar la piezamadre metálica tubular de manera tal que una dimension seccional transversal relativamente más grande de la seccion transversal generalmente ovalada seextienda generalmente en unadireccion d e la dimension seccional transversal relativamente más grande de la cavidad de matriz y de manera tal que unadimension seccional transversal relativamente más pequena de la seccion transversal generalmente ovalada se extiendageneralmente en un direccionde la dimension seccional transversal relativamente más pequena de la cavidad de matriz; ii) acoplar y sellar los extremos opuestos de la pieza madremetálica tubular; iii) inyectar fluido bajo presion dentro de la piezamadre metá lica tubular de manera de expandir la pieza madre metálica tubular paraconformarla de acuerdo con las superficies que definen la cavidad de matriz y de este modo transformar la pieza madre metálica tubular en un miembrometálicotubular alargado. Mediante la provision de una pieza madre tubular con seccion transversal generalmente ovalada y con la pre-compresion de lapieza durante la insercion en la cavidad de matriz, el perímetro de la seccion de la pieza secorresponde con mayor proxim idad al perímetro de la cavidadde matriz lo que permite que la pieza madre se expanda más fácilmente en las esquinas de la cavidad de matriz y se reduce el adelgazamiento de la pareddurante la hidroformacion.
