Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to decode signals by small fixed memory capacity by inputting a run-length code of the maximum bits on a modified Hoffman system from a shift register to small-capacity ROMs with its length divided into two. CONSTITUTION:This system consists of shift register 11, AND circuit 12, fixed memories 13 and 14, output counter 15, latch circuit 16, fixed-pattern memory 17, input counter 18, switches 22, 25 and 26, etc. In this constitution, eight bits of a long code are inputted to shift register 11 for the 1st time and when it is read from ROMs 13 and 14, run-length is not outputted while coding is considered to be improssible. With switches 25 and 26 changed over next, it is shifted by eight bits in memory 17. From register 11, codes expressing kinds of five-bit remaining data and the former eight-bit pattern by three-bits are supplied to ROMs 13 and 14 for address assignment for the 2nd time. Then, eleven-bit run-length decoding is performed including the 1st input.
