Abstract

535,192. Spouts for cans &c. MASTERSON, R. C. Oct. 2, 1939, No. 27034. [Class 66] A pouring spout 12, Fig. 1, for cans and non- metallic containers for beverages and other liquids is preferably made from waterproof paper and is provided with a retaining rim 16 formed by folding back the material. The spout is detachably engaged with a groove 22, Fig. 2, surrounding the pouring orifice, such as 34 and the vent opening 35 if provided; the groove may be formed in the end or in the side wall of the container. As shown in Fig. 7 the groove is formed with an overhanging ledge 28 under which the rim 16 of the spout engages; it is formed with tapering lead-in portions 24, 25, but otherwise is preferably slightly deeper at the ends than in the centre portion at 26.
