Abstract

1,061,677. Spouts for containers. AMERICAN FLANGE & MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. July 19, 1965 [July 31, 1964], No. 30586/65. Heading B8D. A plastics retractible pouring spout 1 slides within a nozzle 2 in a container wall 3 and is supported in its fully withdrawn position by an upper lip 23 abutting a shelf 8 in the nozzle wall, while in its fully extended pouring position it is secured by the engagement of a nozzle wall portion 9 with an external circumferential groove 26 at the lower end of the spout, the said lower end being castellated as shown by an arrangement of alternate lugs 16 and recesses 14, in order to provide it with sufficient resiliency for insertion into the nozzle. The lugs 16 are bevelled to facilitate initial insertion of the spout 1. The tubular body of the spout comprises an upper cylindrical portion 11 provided with a vent 24, and a lower outwardly tapered portion 12 dimensioned such that if the lower portion of the spout should swell due to the action of the contents of the container, a tight friction fit may be produced between the nozzle wall 9 and the tapered portion 12 on sliding the spout into an intermediate raised position, Fig. 4 (not shown). A finger grip 25, Fig. 3, may be provided within the upper end of the spout 1.
